To swap or not to swap? (Maaf to O2)

I'm now out of the minumum contract with madasafish. Apart from the recent kerfuffle re: exceeding the usage allowance, I've been fairly happy with them. Speed is nothing to write home about, but that's not necessarily their fault.
However, I am now tempted by O2's offering. The price is good, I'd get free wireless kit, and I wouldn't have to worry about exceeding 5GB in downloads. This last part is crucial - since we got an Xbox 360 we're pushing up against this limit. I wish maaf had a slightly higher limit - say 8GB or 10GB. Their 20GB offering seems quite expensive.
So, any opinions? Does anyone know what the Fair Usage Limit is with O2? I'm well aware that "unlimited" doesn't really mean that, but surely it must be better than 5GB? Any good or bad O2 experiences?
Thanks,
tiptoe

From all reports so far, no-one has broken any fair usage limits, so no one knows what it is.
But it will almost certainly be more than your current 5gb.
Why not give it a try as you have nothing to lose.
You can get £25 off quidco. The fee is only £12.50/month (£7.50 for o2 mobile customers), and you can have 50 days trial - if you don't like it, cancel within the 50 days and they give you your money back.
Their cs is uk based and you get them freephone.
If you decide its no good, go back to maaf if you want - the price would be the same as staying (maybe even cheaper - and you would get another free wireless kit - and £22 from quidco!) But maaf does seem to be now suffering the impact of now being a bt owned operation.

if o2 is available to you, the chances are that sky llu will be too (samknows.com exchange search) either one is going to offer faster speeds and larger limits for less money than you're paying now, personally i'd prefer sky, but as neither are available to me i'll stick where i am.
Just noticed i haven't answered your question. decent LLU (O2/Be/Sky) vs maaf, LLU wins hands downUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
If I do want to move, what's the procedure to follow? Do I need to give maaf a certain amount of notice? How do I make sure that I don't end up paying maaf for a whole month's usage and only get part of a month, whilst also ensuring continuous broadband service?
Thanks,

You have to give maaf a month's notice.
Ask for a MAC, and pass that on to o2 - it takes around 10 days to complete, so give it to o2 after, say, 15 days of your notice has passed.0 -
If I gave notice now, would I end up paying madasafish for the whole month of May whilst only getting two weeks of bb from them? Is there any way round this? I notice the prices for O2 go up by a fiver at the end of April, so I'd want to swap soon.

All you have to do is give them 28 days notice.
If they try and bill you for another full month after you have given in the notice, (which has been reported by others in the maaf thread), then dispute it as they are not entitled to it.
If o2 prices increase from May 1st, then wouldn't it be better to get your notice in now, and get your MAC so that the transfer can be completed during April. Although you would be "wasting" some of the notice period by leaving before the notice was up, wouldn't you make this up very quickly by locking in to the £5 reduction from o2, plus the £25 from quidco?0
