oh, sorry, i was just doing it from memory. I'm Midlands - so 10.78p general domestic (incl vat) and 14.43/4.83 Economy 7 (incl vat).
What sum are you doing to work out the break even point? Its very clever - thank you!!0 -

The break even point on those rates is a very high 38%.
So if you use 1,000kWh and use 38% at E7 and 62% at day tariff you pay:
380 x 4.83p = £18.35 + 620 x 14.43 = £89.47 Total = £107.82
1,000 at 'norma'l tariff of 10.78p = £107.80
Without storage heating it is almost impossible to get 38% E7 consumption.0 -
Wowsers!
That is a hefty break even point!
I just have a rough and ready little spreadsheet set up with 1% steps that I plug the figures into and look where the columns match. There is a simple calculation that one of the regulars often posts, but I don't "think" it can cope with standing charges - I may be wrong!
I was in the process of doing a little program to do it and stick it on the web (basically put your rates and standard rates, with service charges or tier 1 rates in some boxes and press go) but other commitments are pressing my time currently.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

With Ebico it is easy to work out as they have a very simple tariff.
It is far more difficult with other suppliers as you have to factor in Tier 1/Tier2 prices and allocations(or daily standing charge) plus discounts for dual fuel, payment by direct debit etc.
This means that a break even percentage for one level of consumption, will not necessarily apply if you double that annual consumption.0 -

Yeah, I figured that, the playing about I was doing was using a bit of VB code in excel and I had a slider to increase / decrease usage so you see the difference it makes.
