Need to sell my car FAST!!!

Hi Cheap as Chips.
Hope you don't mind but I looked at your other posts to get a flavour of the predicament you are in.
Firstly well done on all your ebaying etc. I notice from this post that your OH normally has a good income so maybe you are panicking with selling your car. Is your OH income likely to stay down or is it a one off this month?
If I was in your shoes and if my OH income was unpredicatable I would get a part-time job. I don't know how old your children are or if your OH works shifts but it maybe and idea to get evening or even night working and sleep while your girls are at school. If all your girls are in school contact your local council to see if they have vacancies for dinner ladies, lunchtime supervisor etc. School hours and term time only and it will take the pressure off you.
Selling your car is going to cause you problems. Unless your car is a gas guzzler I wouldn't change it for something cheaper as you could be buying a heap of problems.

As another option for the summer, perhaps you could get a push bike?0

I dont have a car - but then, my kids school is 5 mins down the road. I do agree that its unrealistic to walk that far. Is there any other way - ie leaving a non-urgent bill unpaid, lowering creditor payments or borrowing short term from family? The part time job does sound like a good idea too.

What about offering to do some ironing for friends or something to bring in some immediate cash to keep the wolf from the door?
I'd avoid selling the car if you can... you and your kids will struggle to walk that kinda distance several times a day...... Or if you must sell it, is there a neighbour who you could bunk in with and car share to school...?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
I really can not see any other way araound it.
first of all i must say thank you for your comments, its good to hear others views.
i would like to think this will be kind of short time.
we have thought about selling my car before as its quite big and its only used for short trips.
if we sell now we can pay off the 2 debts that are pushing us over the edge.
once the summer is over we will have finished paying our overdraft off which will give us £200 per month back and we will be 3 debts down saving about £600 per month. and my hubbys wage should go back up, that way i can prehaps look at getting a smaller cheaper car.
and as it's the summer the kids will be off for 6 weeks of that and i do have friends with cars that go to the same school so if i was really stuck they would help out.
if i dont sell we will default on at least 2 things and i know it will then knock everything else.
i dont want people thinking i wont get a job or anything, at the moment i can't my youngest is 2 and my middle child finishes at 11.30 everyday.
my hubbys job is very demanding and he is given his calls every morning and he travels to peoples homes so it can be anything from 9.00am to 8.00pm at night so i can not get an evening job.
i suppose i could get an though the night job but with a 2 year old when would i sleep?
i do try really hard to contribute to the household and do all the usual, ebay, surveys, slice the pie mystery shop daily clicks
and last christmas i managed to pay for all the presents , shopping and food all from my surveys and ebay etc. so i do do my best and i am trying to bring up my darling daughters of 2,4 and 6total -nov07 [strike]£25,526[/strike] jan08 [strike]£23,246[/strike] May08 [STRIKE]£21,171[/STRIKE] June 08 £20,9640 -
Sorry to hear about your predicament.
I understand what you are saying about working, it's such a short time from dropping off at preschool to picking up there's no time, is there any way your daughter could do whole days at preschool, so you only need drop off/pick up at school/preschool
My Son used to do 2 full days & 1 half day as I live about 15-20 mins walk from school/preschool & to be honest that really is far enough to walk for little ones, especially when the weather's bad. I do have a car, but try not to use it too much because of petrol prices & I think it's good exercise for all of us to walk.
My hubby works away, so I had no chance of doing evening or weekend work either, I have had to bide my time, wait for my Son to go to school, then find a school related job, I am now a catering assistant for 2 hours a day at a nearby school, it's low money, but I get £200 a month & it fits in with school holidays etc.
I hope you can find a solution, I take it your husband uses his car for his driving job, not just to get to it? As it would be easier for him to get around than you with 3 children

A good friend of mine was in a similar predicament to you and she sold her car online on www.wewillbuyyourcar.com
My friend flirted with the idea of selling her car for a few days before she actually bit the bullet but she was able to log on to the site and get a quote as to how much they would actually pay her so she could work her finances around that - but there was no commitment on either side until she actually hit the 'sell' button and signalled her intent to complete the transaction.
Maybe it's worth trying something similar and getting a feel for how much someone would be prepared to you pay for it before you make any final decision?
My friend was happy that she got a fair price and she didn't have the hassle of strangers coming to her home that you get with selling privately through AutoTrader or the likes (I also think there was an element of not wanting the neighbours to know her business too!
). Best of all, she reckoned that the wewillbuyyourcar.com people didn't even expect her to clean the car or empty out the kids' sweet and crisp packets - and they even went to her office to collect the car (once she had made sure that the money was safely in her bank account!
)
Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I like Kizzy's idea of 2 and a half nursery days... or do you know anyone who is nearer to the nursery that would give you a cuppa and a chat for a couple of hours a day, i'd be tempted not to walk home only to have to turn and come back.......!!!
Jillinoz suggestion of that website is rather interesting!!
To be honest hun, i don't think anyone is judging you or expecting you to find a job.... i hope you sort things out.
