HOw long for a Thames Water meter ?

Options
Hi
Im shortly going to be moving into a Thames Water supplied property.
At the moment the rateable value is £69/mth ! (without a meter)

I will be requesting a meter asap. Is it possible to get the current occupiers to apply for a meter once weve exchanged - or will a change of ownership cancel out that request and I have to start again once Ive take occupation.

Is it possible to move onto the asessed charge scheme whilst the fitting of the meter is pending ?

Cheers

  • check with Thames Water, they may have a service level agreement that says if they don't fit within a certain time you can have an assessed charge.

IMHO it is better for the meter to be fitted in your name, as if it is fitted under the previous owners, only THEY can revert back to ratable value based charging within 12 months (future owners MUST be metered AFAIK even within the 12 month period) if that makes sense?

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

You'll need to wait until you move in and apply in your own name. It shouldnt take too long! You will stay on the RV charge until either A) the meter is fitted, or B) they find they cant fit one. If they cant fit one, then you would go onto the assd charge.

Depending where you live you may have to have a compulsory meter anyway on change of ownership. Have a look here: http://www.thameswater.co.uk/UK/region/en_gb/content/News/News_001272.jsp?SECT=Section_Homepage_000431

The previous occupiers should inform Thames Water they are moving out, and you can go on the Thames Water site and inform them when you are moving in via this link - https://forms.thameswater.co.uk/change-address

When I moved Thames Water came round the day before to install a water meter. They weren't allowed to as we hadn't exchanged. They then came around 2 times randomly with no warning to attempt to install a meter. Both times I wasn't in. They refused to bill me until I had a water meter and kept sending me letters saying they were coming to install a meter. After 3 months including me trying to contact them, I looked up how much I should be paying unmetered and wrote to them to ask them to bill me.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
