Fuel Price Increase

Hi Every One
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it.
We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr.
Philip H. offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE. It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso.
BOYCOTT BP & ESSO. EASY.
See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it.

I don't understand your reply, If you are implying this is originally your idea, have it. I don't care who's idea this is. As far as I'm concerned this is the only way to get the price cut on Fuel. If not have you got any Idea????????????????????????????0

not my idea or an idea that will work or have any effect0

There is another thread on this:

This is my response which still stands:This is the most stupid thing I've ever read.
UK petrol actually has the lowest profit margins in Europe - it is expensive because the tax, which successive governments, Labour and Conservative, have put on it.
I'm not saying petrol companies are whiter than white, we all know they delay or avoid reducing prices when the cost of oil goes down but respond rapidly when it goes up, but they really aren't giving us a bad deal, as much as we like to think they are. Only about 2-3 pence per litre is actually profit.

I don't disagree with the tax either - it encourages us to use our cars less and to choose environmentally friendly vehicles which use less fuel. If the government slashed fuel duty it would have to raise some other tax to compensate.0 -

Basically this is a rehashed idea which has never worked on any of the previous occasions either, partly because it is unworkable and contradictory in its suggestions but mostly because it is SPAM and people hate spam clogging up their mail boxes and forums just like this.

Why target Esso and BP? Do you think Sainsbury, Tesco etc refine petrol at the back of their shops rather than get it from exactly the same source e.g. refinery, as all other companies?
Anyway, how much do you think they could reduce their prices? Most garages only survive on the high profits from food sales etc.
As several people have stated the main ‘culprit’ for higher fuel prices in UK is Tax.
Reduce that tax? OK where do you wish the extra tax burden to be placed?(Normal response here is to save money by stopping handouts to immigrants.)
Well I for one do not normally use Esso and BP but if this stupid idea gains any ground I will start using them.
As for OPEC getting worried because we switched petrol suppliers – I didn’t realise they only supplied oil to Esso and BP!! I suppose Shell, Total and the supermarkets get it from another cartel.0 -

how do other countries manage? €2.80 for a pack of 20 cigs, petrol a lot cheaper.
do you really think this country actually spends ALL the tax they take off us? That's all people seem to say is 'where do they get the extra tax' the governement say it but there's no way at all that tax is budgeted so that every penny is accounted for..
Should do petrol the same as PAYE. get a tax free limit using a swipe card, when you pass your tax free limit you start paying normal price. Same as if you've forgotten your card, you pay pump prices.0
