If you have vista, go to start, programs, accessories, sound recorder and use the built in microphone which most new laptops have.0

As long as there is a built in microphone that is, most new laptops will have one.0

I use "Audiocorder" on my iBook laptop.
The built-in microphone is Ok if sound levels are high but I prefer to use an external microphone connected through a Griffin iMic USB adapter.0 -
I followed those instructions and a box popped up to say an audio device could not be found on when I clicked on OK a sound box coms up with headings on top playback, record, sounds. I clicked on record and it says realtek high definition audio not plugged in. I do have vista and have just bought this sony laptop. Any ideas?0

Sounds like you need a microphone, have you plugged one in.0

yes I have just tried a microphone the type you hold close and speak into it works great close up but does not pick up sound in the room for example from the tv 3 mtr away and at normal volume. any ideas0

Sit nearer your telly!

Just joking :rotfl: Goto, start, settings, control panel, sound, recording. Configure your microphone.
Job done go and make yourself a congratulatory cup of tea.0 -
no it says it is working ok it cant be that. I think I need to buy another microphone can you suggest something less obvious but powerful enough to pick up the sound in room0

Any good external dictaphone microphone will be fine, most come in lapel sized clip ons, some with a tiny box pre-amp (half way along the cable) containing a single AA battery.0

You are not using this for the purposes of entrapment are you?
