landline connection advice NOT BT

Hi, does anyone know of a landline connection that I can use which is not a BT landline as my disabled parents have been let down repeatedly by BT and are living in their newly built home without a landline and with a very poor mobile connection.
Thanks

In theory, any provider can supply a new phone line, but very few want the hassle of arranging it. Sorry I can't be more helpful but there aren't many who do it.
You could try Cable and Wireless (formerly Bulldog).

If there are no spare lines to the exchange or spare capacity at the exchange, MAAF would likely have the same problem, as they also contract BT Openreach to do the provide. Better to keep your line rental with BT anyway!

There are areas near me where Orange signals are poor but T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and '3' come booming in five by five.

Have you tried another cellular network at your parents' house?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

No you don't. (But note they are now owned by BT)

Not correct, read their website. I have my line rental with Madasafish and my LLU broadband with UKOnline.

I keep seeing the advice "Better to keep your line rental with BT" - personally I think that advice is fine unless you don't use your landline to make phone calls (or only very very few) and you don't want any fancy features like caller display, in which case why not go for the cheapest line rental on the shortest contract? Madasafish Talk is a one month contract.
When I had a fault on my line, Madasafish arranged for Openreach to fix it in a reasonable time and paid me compensation for loss of service & mobile calls to helpdesk with no quibbles - so in my experience their customer service is fine.

Madasafish won't let you use 1899, 18185 etc. So you always have to pay for all calls made during the day.

Also they won't let you use primus for their 1p/min mobile call plan. So you always have to pay their high charges to ring a mobile.

You miss my point, which was "unless you don't use your landline to make phone calls (or only very very few) and you don't want any fancy features like caller display"
So while I am sure what you say is true (and has been said many times), it is irrelevant to me and perhaps others who don't use their landline to make calls.

    I haven't "missed" your point.

You have changed the scenario from people who only make "very few" calls to "others who don't make calls".

If you don't make calls there is a cheaper option than madasafish. (In fact if you do make calls it is also a cheaper option).

Sign up to post office line rental via quidco and get £9.25 cashback plus cheaper line rental than madasafish.

Unlike madasafish there is no minimum contract. You also get free calls evenings and weekends. Can use 1899 etc.

May be relevant to you, and any others "who don't use their landline....".

Okay, whatever you say, I really can't be bothered to quibble (I'm not a Madasafish salesperson)
Thank you for pointing out the Post Office option - which is perhaps more relevant to the question the OP asked.
