You can't be classed as a full time student if studying with the OU so there'd be no CT exemption.

But if they did not work whilst studying they would be eligible for CTB x

True - but more likely they're just lying!

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place, I just need some advice.
My Ex OH is claiming benefit despite having in excess of £200k in savings, I reported him to the benefit hotline to no avail, they are not interested. Any ideas as to how this can be progressed?
I'm not doing this through bitterness, I'm just appalled that he is getting benifit when there are so many people in more need.

If he is receiving a means tested benefit then it should be reported to the DWP Fraud Hotline or if Council Tax Benefit is involved, to the local Town Hall. If you know it is a DWP means tested benefit and really want something done as you suspect that nothing has been, write to your MP. You can be assured that something will be done then!

It is however possible, that something has been done already. The DWP will not tell you if they have investigated or not and your ex may be too ashamed to say anything to anyone.

OP - How do you know the benefits people are 'not interested'? Perhaps they are investigating now?

On the other hand, they may not have that amount of money and may be claiming legitimate benefits?

big mistake - Who told you - them?

Are the cars all paid for?

Tbh it sounds to me like they are winding their nosey neighbour up!

Let's face it, if you are prepared to time their comings and goings, 24/7 and moan about them using their own garden, you're fair game!

Perhaps you should get out more?

If you do believe it's fraud, report them again to the hotline & the council. I wonder if HMRC would be interested too?

Benefit fraudsters are theives pure & simple - so if you have a reasonable suspicion, ratehr than a grudge, do please report it.

Bestpud, I think you have 2 posts muddled up, I said the fraud hotline wasn't interested in someone who is claiming benefit despite haveing savings. I'm not watching anyone 24/7.
Wearside, he is claiming a means tested benefit, he is still receiving it & is in the process of buying 3 properties abroad.

Of course you're doing it through bitterness otherwise you'd have considered that they may not be means tested benefits such as contributions based JSA or DLA.

Perhaps you should try keeping your nose out of what isn't your business any longer.

Yes, I had. Sorry about that.

But I'd still like to know how you know the benefits people are 'not interested'? They may take a while to investigate and won't let you know.

Plus, if you have given enough information for them to suspect your information is correct, and they can use that information to investigate further, then I can't see why they'd simply ignore it tbh.
