New TV and connecting it up

I'm going to be getting a new Samsung 42" Plasma in the next few days. I have an xbox 360 and an Virgin Media digital TV box. Obviously I want the best picture quality possible so what cables will i need? The 360 already has a scart cable that also has a switch on it that says HDMI. Will ineed to get a HDMI cable for the xbox and just use a normal scart for the digibox?

Cheers

Do you have the Virgin V+ Box? That has a HDMI interface too. You can use the RGB or HDMI for your XBOX that is upto you. Is the TV 1080i or 1080p?
  • Check the delivery boys when its delivered in the van, and it has to be 'upright' not laying on its side you will see this on the box packaging. The panels are glass and cannot take the weight when layed over, hence deformation of the layers and early failure and colour distortion.

HDMI leads are from £8 and you do not need one costing £50 - £200.

I dont know the xbox or virgin units. You might need two cables.
Let us all know how you get on here.

Cheers for the response. Its not a v+ box, just a standard one. Looking at the specs it is 1024 x 768.

In which case you can just run Scart for your Virgin and HDMI or RGB for your Xbox 360, as the Xbox 360 comes with the RGB cable already you won't have to spend any additional money.

I dont know whether its too late but if i was you i wouldnt get a plasma to play games on, go for an lcd.

Ive had problems playing games on my plasma and now i will only play on my lcd.

The problem is if you have static image like a score or time in the corner it tends to stay on the screen when you change channels.

This is called image retention, it will go but the worse case scenario you will get image burn which wont go.

I love my plasma but even when i watch a football match for 45 minutes the score stays in the corner for a good 15 minutes after i have change the channel over.

Stick with samsung but go for the lcd for gaming mind you can get the sony v3000 40 inch lcd for 700 pound from digital direct and its a cracking screen.

the switch says hd not hdmi, you will be able to connect you xbox through your RGB, which is the green, yellow and blue cbles, this will put a signal out at 720 dpi. which is high defintion.

The virgin will be connected through the scart which will be standard defintion.

Cheers for the advice. I'm not on the xbox that often as it tends to wind up the girlfriend. I'm going to need to get a tilt wall mount for it as its going to be on the wall a bit higher than normal so will need to be tilted downwards to avoid me having some sort of neck disorder! The cheapest I can find is about £45 so thats not too bad.

thats a good price, for a bracket, you will be well chuffed with the picture quality through the 360 its wicked.

I was recomended when i bought my tv 32 inch and below lcd anything bigger go plasma, and to be honet the picture on my plasma is better than my lcd for normal viewing.

I'm actually getting excited! I have a few things I need to look at though. Like where my xbox and digibox will go. As the TV is going above the mantelpiece and was thinking that having the digibox and xbox just sticking out won't look right but that is something I can sort out.
