........its driving me mad!!!!
for the last few days internet explorer will not let me download ANY file from any site??? Also i cant click on streams, for example martins tips. And on windows media player the radio no longer works??
I have reinstalled my firewall - no change
cleaned registry (alot of problems there but no change)
I luckily had a copy of firefox on disk and when thats running i can download anything?
I have tried to reinstall IE but it says i already have a newer version? And i have tried deleting it from PROGRAM FILES(its wasnt on the remove programs list) and it says that it cannot be deleted as anmother program is using it, but no other programs are running?!?!?
hope someone can help as its driving me crazy
thx
jim

Try for starters, media player do this, open it, Tools, Options, File types, select all, ok.
Internet explorer try this, Tools,Internet Options, programs, reset web settings, take tick out and click yes then ok.0 -

when tring to download the box "hangs" for a couple of seconds and says internet explorer can not download, internet explorer was unable to open the web site, either it is unavailable or unable to be found/
it doesnt matter where i try to download from ,i always get the same messasge.

Cheers Vultura, I couldnt track that down earlier (crappy MS site)0 -
I had a problem with a computer I was working on for a friend where IE would not download any files, turned out it was a virus blocking downloads. Once I had loaded a virus checker from a cd and cleaned the system it worked okay.
Iam not sure which virus it had as their where about 50, so it may be worth a try downlaoding and running one through firefox.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Check for spyware with adaware, spybot and MS anti spyware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
You can run a virus check too:
http://www.free-av.com/
I recommend turning system restore off whilst you do this and also run the virus/spyware scanners in safe mode:

If this doesn't work, to get your IE working you could try uninstalling or repairing IE, cleaning the registry a bit if necessary and then reinstalling IE. Here are some pointers:

hi guys thanks for all the advice, but still no luck,
i've ran Avast virus scan (at boot time)and this has found nothing aand also have used adaware and spybot, thety have found little bits but nothing special. As for reinstalling/repairing IE. I have tried the links but as i am running SP2 and not SP1 i cant seem to reinstall. I have changed the registry as the site suggest but to no avail i still get the message about already having a higher version.
is there anyway to uninstall SP2 or reinstall it?
i think im going crazy!?!?!!?!!!?!?!Copy from one, it’s plagiarism; copy from two, it’s research.0
