Dulus and sandtex both guarentee for many years, but you need to follow their instructions to the letter. That said, the front of our house gets covered within weeks of it being painted with road dust and refinery emmisions, but a quick jet wash normally restores it, but this years it's one year too many;-)

i think you will find that it is not a guarentee they give , but a claim that it will last for up to 15 years , this doesn't take into account movement cracks , algae growth , dirt and dust , extreme weathering etc .

So to answer orignal question - Painting is one of those jobs which most of us could do ourselves .

, it isn't judging by some of the efforts i see
  • My friend paid £7,000  to have her end of terrace house painted (in North London). And that was the cheapest quote, the highest being £15K

     Did the paint have gold flecks in it lol.

I cant believe anyone would charge that, let alone pay that price.

I think I will move my business up london lol.

£7000 ................ how long did this painting job take? kinda hard to believe that they paid 7 grand let alone got quoted 15 grand it might be london but the rates arnt that good. obviously got idiotic quotes and paid an idiotic price for a simple easy quick paint job

Hi all, my turn to ask a question;)

Does anybody have an idea of how much to paint the out side of a 3 bed smallish semi? labour only, I supply the paint.

End wall is a tall gable wall upto ridge. No window frames to be done, but the window reveals and cills are cement and will need to be done in gloss white. The outside is very roughcast rendered, so will need either thick brush, or long pile roller. I am guessing two coats to cover. Facias and soffits to be done.

ive just done a 3 bed 1 1/2 story house took me 2 days but it was only one coat of white included high gables and 2 chimneys and dormer windows and a black base worst was round his conservatory "NIGHTMARE" reaching over but charged him £300 and after racing to get it done left everything neat and tidy done a quick good job and he gave me an extra £100 bonus :D no scaffold uses as scaffolding is a pain! have to hobble up and down it with paint etc (long roller pole and a twin or tripple stage lader) instead of having to mess about with scaffold.

if scaffold or platforms are involved the labour will get higher and higher + powerwashing etc

as the weather here is crap (rain wind snow gales storms) i rather use pliolite its oil based and actually last alot of years verry good coverage easy to work with. < STAYS CLEAN FOR 2-3 years :)

where as dulux paints i cant fault dulux i like there interior and exterior paints but when it says "lasts 15 years" it might do if your in costa del spain but not with the mayhem uk weather conditions

And why are you dragging up a post that is over 3 years old?
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
