could someone answer :
do you get SMP if you pay NI and tax on your wage, and maternity allowance if you earn under that level. ( do they both pay £112 per week)? and would I still get working and child tax credits whilst on maternity, as well as family allowance for the 2 children I already have.
also Im only contracted at work for 16 hours Though Ive been working 30+ each week. on 16 hours I dont pay tax and NI so would that mean that I dont get any maternity pay?
many thanks just trying to work out how to pay the mortgage and bills . Thanks
I tried this on the pregnancy link, so hoping someone here can help.

I'd be interested to know if anyone knows this, as i'm also going on maternity leave beginning of August, i too only work 16 hours, so can i get SMP or MA, or is it all down to the company you work for?
Thanks0 -
You dont have to pay NI ~ you have to average £87 per week in the qualifying period which is approx 8 weeks before week 25.
This includes overtime.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -

From an earnings then yes, providing you also earnt this in your qualifying period. How long have you worked for your employer.
Also, you should be paying NI on £108 pw although only about 88p pre April 6th and 33p post.

Then I can not see any reason why you would not qualify

sorry to clarify: is this the eighth week or for eight weeks ie from the 17 week of pregnancy till the 25.
so if I earn £6.00 per hour x 16 hours per week I will be fine- thats my contract
as well as if I earn 30 hours per week made up with overtime.
does anyone know if I carry on getting my working tax credits and child tax credits whilst on maternity leave or do I just get SMP.
thank you again0 -
WTC and CTC should be paid if you were getting them prior to going on maternity, they are only paid for 6 months though so if you dont return after that you need to advise them as the WTC element will stop until you go back to work.0
