I love the idea of the grocery challenge,as i am a newbie here i never used to have a budget but am following the tip of saving up a months receipts. My month starts on 25th august(payday!) and so far i have stocked up my cupboards ready for lots of homebaking etc and have spent a 106 quid on 2 adults 2 growing teenagers 3 dogs & 2 gerbils but hope to cut back considerably over the coming month as quite a bit of this was meat for the freezer.
So hopefully by 25th September i will be able to have an idea how much iactually spend ready for a reduced budbet in October!
Wish me luck!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
I knew the first week would go over budget as with the kids at home I haven't been able to get out and shop so I've run out of loads of store cupboard staples.
Still, it wasn't bad at £57.12, only £7.12 over budget and I've managed to stock up on a few things I've run out of.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Well I've just been to asda for my first proper shop of the month, had to do a very small shop on saturday as was cooking dinner at the in-laws. But tonight I have done really well and for the weeks food I have only spent £15.26, added to what i spent at the weekend, £6.72, I am below my target so far. Although I did realise today that as there are only 4 sundays in september my target should really only be £120. Am making use of a few things in the freezer this week to keep costs down a little, and also making veg soup to take for lunches aswell.Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

Had my second shop of the month delivered today. Came to £70.23.
Used a money off code so had to spend over £75 for that to work. Add delivery and that bumps it up....Still pleased with that.
I had to buy 'extra' stuff that I didn't need this week to make up the amount so I'm hoping that means I won't have to buy as much next week. :T0 -
Hardly bought anything this week for our shopping! I'm expecting to go out and buy more fruit at some point over the weekend, but I'll either go to the local shops or brave Asda ON MY OWN so I can have a little break from my very cranky DD.
I have £58.34 left until 27th September so I'm hoping that I might just come in under budget this month *fingers crossed* Any spare grocery money can be transfered to the credit card as I'm using my card everytime I shop in Asda (also only taking a basket instead of a trolley) so I only have £5 cash in my purse - when this has gone it will go up to a £10 note but that won't be broken into unless I REALLY need something. Stops those impulse buys as I'm more careful when using my debit card incase I go overdrawnCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
have spent £51.72 so far this month, but did quite a large shop and stocked up on lots of basics like rice pasta etc which should stretch so feeling quite happy so fat that i can meet target of £200. i'm keeping a running list on a spreadsheet, and adding any extra bits i buy on there. can someway let me know if this is the best way to go about it.
thanks

good grief
this thread has really opened my eyes
i spend £100 per week on groceries for two people and one dog and thats including me being away for work for on average, up to three days/nights per week.
ok so i am issuing myself a challenge
my next grocery shop for one week will be on friday- challenging myself to make it £60.
now im going to read the OS board well into the night to make sure i can meet this challenge lol0
