Locker broken into at the gym...

1. Disclaimers are unfair contract terms. Gyms cannot provide lockers and padlocks for members to use and then absolve themselves of any responsibility regarding them.
2. You should be covered for your missing items on your home contents insurance. If you don't have any then you obviously like living dangerously!
3. I have to agree though that having been told that there are thieves operating in the gym, you perhaps should have removed your things!0 -
at my la fitness there are separate lockers in the hallway (and thus CCTV-able) that the signs implore you to leave your valuables. Are there none at the OP's gym?0

To all those who say that I brought this on myself, I thought the thieves had gone - from what the guy was saying, it was earlier that evening. The locker was locked, and I only spent 40 minutes away from it. I also assumed that since the guy was warned, and since I'm paying £40 a month, not only would they act upon the information supplied to them. I didn't ignore any disclaimers, since I've never been aware of them.
I've subsequently found that I am covered for the watch, wallet and driving license by our house insurance, but there's £50 excess and they don't cover cash. I'm infuriated by the shocking attitude of the gym towards it and having sought legal advice, I am aware that they are liable. I'm still £100 down as well, and have the inconvenience of having no cards etc0 -
oh, and the only reason I knew that thieves had been operating was because I overheard another member stating so, not because the gym staff made anyone aware.0

If it were me I'd keep checking with the police if they got the guy and then take the thief to small claims over it. Surely the thief is ultimately the one most liable."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
