they could have taken note of a description and just being able to see somebody commit a crime is often deterrent enough to stop them. personally i think they have been neglagent as they knew it was happening, did nothing to stop it and didnt take steps to inform other customers/clients0

Thats just an assumption people are making. No where does it say any member of staff said they didn't do anything.0 -

OP knew all about it, however that didn't stop him leaving his valuables behind."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

I'd say given the gym had already been told that thefts had occured from lockers, and that they did nothing about it, then they were negligent.
Did you contact the police?
At £40 a month, you'd think LA Fitness would be checking who comes in and out of the gym, so would have a list of everyone who entered and was on the site at the time the thefts occured. If they don't, then once again that is negligence on their behalf.
I would get the police involved, as perhaps one of the staff is in on it, otherwise they would have been more concerned. Do you have names of other gym members who had stuff stolen?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The police know, and yes, they have a list of the people who have come in and out BUT the person they suspect it is was on a 5 day pass, which you do have to give details for but you don't have to show any ID, so they probably put false details. Yet more negligence on the gym's part. There was no manager on duty for the receptionist to inform either, or for me to speak to. The police are looking into it and they said that their security is inadequate. Yes, I knew about it but I assumed they'd moved on, and I assumed that since the receptionist had been told, they would have done something about it. What's more, I only knew because I'd overheard conversations.0 -

I would have also presumed that because someone had also complained, that the gym would do something about it immediately!!
The member of staff should have called the police instantly when first notified, and got someone to go and sit in the locker room!!
They ought to have insurance to pay out for this sort of thing, but if you can't get them to pay for the items stolen, then I would consider taking this up with the local press and let everyone know what they get with their gym membership.
It's rather irresponsible for the gym to issue 5 day passes without requesting some form of ID with their address on! I had a week pass somewhere, but had to show them a utility bill in my name for proof of address.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

Firstly OP sorry to hear about your theft.
It is strange reading this thread, as just last night, I was podering the sign in the changing room at a gym I'm trialling for 7 days that says something along the lines of
"management will not be responsible for loss or damage however caused"
I was wondering to myself "surely" they have some sort of duty of care?
It would seem (reading above) they do not, so I think I'll make certain I never leave anything valuable in a locker in future.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

sounds pointless having a padlock if it can be bypassed so easily, looks like a design fault, I'd definately hold the club responsible.0 -
Sorry but the OP and the usual blame the company merchants are being totally unreasonable
H&S would dictate that the staff shouldnt have tried to intervene, they should have contacted the police and supplied relevent information, as far as I can see they have done that
The OP chose to ignore disclaimers, which will exist and left valuables in a flimsy locker, tbh everyone knows gyms, leisure centres etc are targets and tbh I wouldnt expect them to be secure
Its also unreasonable to expect LA fitness and their minimum wage no doubt staff to approach and confront someone who could be armed or anything
The biggest neglience here is the OP who despite knowing crime was in progress left his valuables0
