I was wondering if anyone had used the Lloyds TSB and American Express Airmiles Duo credit card deal where you get 1500 airmiles. They say this is enough for 2 flights to zone 1 with all taxes and fees included. The hitch is you have to book 1 nights accomodation through them. I have looked at both Paris and Amsterdam and the cheapest hotel I can find is about £120. Doesn't look like a very good deal to me any more!!
Do you know if that is it? No cheaper hotels or any other way of using this deal? It looks to me like it would still be cheaper just to buy the flights myself through ryanair or somewhere and find a cheap hotel for a night.

i just had a look for the price of hotels in October out of interest, thinking there would definately be a cheaper hotel then. Still £150 up. I think it looks like the only way of getting something out of these points for me is to just go by myself to a zone 2 destination like Budapest where they actually have hotels for less than £100. The 2 flights to zone 1 destinations just isn't worth it by the looks of things.0

Just looking at booking something myself. Me and mrs chalky_bertie are wanting to go and see her brother in Montreal and we have found out that you can get to Boston for 1500 miles and £280 each return. Just got to picking the flights and there is nothing for 1500 miles they are coming up at 2650 so we can't do it at the moment unless I keep trawling around changing the dates. Thought it was a good deal as we can't really see flights to Montreal or Boston for less than £600 in total.
Does anyone know if we have to book 2 x single bookings or can I join the vouchers together and hope we get on the same flight.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0

So, you have to book a hotel for the destination you are flying to?
You couldn't just fine the cheapest hotel they have and book one night there?
I have applied for the cards, since it's the quickest way to build up an airmiles balance!
I'm planning a trip to Boston too, and the 1500 miles plus £280 is a good deal, if I can get round the hotel snag. I have another 300 odd miles from my old mastercard, so if you can book a hotel for anywhere than I could book one for 300 miles plus a tenner in Tunisia, and it still would be less than the cheapest BA deal I've found, which is £348 return.
Or, since I'm flying end of September and it does seem to be off-peak, I can hold out a bit longer and see if the price goes down some more.0

BTW you have to spend using the amex card not the mcard to get the voucher. I'm waiting for the winter for cheap hotel prices.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

No, an online voucher is produced but as another poster said you have to spend on the AMEX card. (spent on both just to make sure). We applied for one each (mrs chalky_bertie aswel) and if you both wanted to go you have to complete two seperate bookings. The hotel we were offered in Boston was around £120 pn. 2 bookings meant 2 nights though, however the man on the phone said that you don't have to stay at their hotel on the 1st night when you arrive it can be any night of your stay.
Not used mine to get to Boston, it was going to cost me £800 for the tickets (2 tickets at 1500 + £280 = £560 and 2 nights at their hotels @ £120 pn = £240) Booked with Air France to Montreal for £730 which is were we actually wanted to go but did not have enough miles.
These vouchers could be more hassle than they are worth but are handy in an emergency.

Hmm, so I couldn't book a hotel for the night before the flight, in London, then? It has to be at your actual destination.
Don't think it's going to work for me either, then - it'll be cheaper just to wait for the flight I want to go into a sale.0

Don't think so but could be worth checking.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0

Looking at www.airmiles.co.uk and looking at flights from London to Amsterdam for 22/7 returning 25/7 I got plenty of alternatives.
It gave me the option of doing flight only and again towards the end when it asks Do you need a hotel there is an option to continue without.
I don't have enough airmiles yet to complete the booking so I did not go to the very end but at the point I stopped it quoted the flights for 375 miles per way and there did not seem to be any extras to pay.0
