most unlockers have purchase the correct equipment for the job...there is never a foolproof method as the phone suppliers upgrade the phone software regularly which means unlock equipment that works one day may (big may) fail the next.
However, if many of you realised how difficult it used to be to unlock mobiles from the networks (dismantle phone, short eprom chips - nokia 3210) you really wouldn't be worried about the systems they use these days

It's not that I doubt in the technology, but you must know the feeling that you are holding a whatever-it-is-worth handset and giving it to a someone who can effectively make it useless in seconds.... and there is no turning back or no hope for help, unless you're insured - and even if you are, there might be a catch that unlocking is not included.... tough ;-/_____
