My New website - Website Submitting Advice!

Hi All,

I've just created a new website with the aim of attracting a fairly good sized audience. We've got all of the main pages done and are now long at submitting to the search engines.

I know if you code it well enough then the search engines will automatically pick you up when they trawl through the web (?).

I've seen numerous companies offering to submit for you and get a good ranking , however I'm not sure how true this actually is?

Do any of you have any experience when it comes down to this? When someone types in something that they would like to buy, I'd like our website within the first 2 pages of the search?

I have high expectations, but I really want this to work!

Cheers for the help!

Simon.

Coming in the top 2 pages for everything would be pretty impossible, I am guessing it is some kind of affiliate site so paid for ads may be the way forward.

I would remove the links as I dont think they are within the rules.

  • Ah sorry, I didn't realise. I'll get them removed.

I'd just want the site in a prominent place on a search results page, I take it a paid for service maybe the way forward then? Can anyone recommend one?

Personally the only search engine you should be interested in is google and that is pretty hard to get high on the search results unless you specialise in something. I have got a couple of sites that appear in the top 3 results of there subject but they are very specialist.

You can use the adverts that appear on the right but I would have to deffer to someone who has used them to give you an idea of cost.

If you do submit it anywhere with these free sites, make sure you use an email address your not bothered about too much as you will no doubt be spammed crazy :)
  • Thank you! I'll create one through the website!
  • When my wife set up a web page for her business, we went to this page on Google's site

    http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

    from this menu page:

    http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/submit_content.html

We did something similar with other search engines.

Being a specialist/niche market may be of use, and I remember having to think hard about what we wrote in the comments box, as this is probably helps Google's search function through the descriptive content

  • Baby,

    Thank You!
I've already signed up via Google through that link, it can sometimes take ages for it to be added though. I'm going to try the Google sitemap tool today, hopefully that will help us out a bit.

The TechGuy podcast may help - http://twit.tv/ttg444

Someone phoned in asking how to get a better google search ranking, and it seems your content if key and having high ranking sites linking to you, I'd have a listen
  • Cheers! I'll take a listen later.

I'm just adding all the meta tags at the moment.

    Hi Simon,
I make my living online and to get your website on the first 2 pages without using many techniques is going to be hard to impossible unless there's limited searches and websites for your area of selling/service.
Getting ranked highly is the holly grail of all online marketers. I doubt you'll get very high just submitting to the search engines. It takes links, blogs, articles and viral marketing in competitive area's to stand a chance.
I suggest you look at the free internet marketing forum http://www.warriorforum.com where's there's a section on SEO with some of the nets brightest people that regularly have sites listed in the top 5. Search on the forum for Brad Callen - he runs a SEO company listed at 1 for SEO on google.
