severe disablement premium

Hi kendalls cave, yes they backdated it and sent it by cheque. I never knew I was entitled to the IDA and SD premium until they sent me a letter this time last year. If they have sent you a letter stating they think you are entitled to more then they must be sure of this. I didn't wait very long from the time I received a letter to receiving payment if that helps.0

Yeah I had to fill in a few questions with the letter asking if I lived alone and was anyone caring for me (no to both questions) I must admit the back dated money will come in useful. I wonder how far they will back date:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0

They backdated mine as from when I was awarded Middle care rate DLA, and yes it was a blessing. I live alone and it is difficult, and for some reason (whether it is because of finding it hard to cope healthwise) I seem to worry more about things than I used to. Even though they had said they owed me money I didn't quite beleive it.0

No I still don't believe it - I am still worried it's all a mistake. If they back date mine they owe me years :rotfl::j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0

Well I'm sure they wouldn't have sent that letter unless they were sure you were entitled to more money. How long they backdate for I wouldn't have a clue, but hey, it could turn out to be very good news!;)
Good luck, and hope they don't keep you wondering for long.0 -

All these premiums are rather confusing but you can't get the enhanced disability premium without being in receipt of the high rate care component of DLA (It stops when you get to 60).
A disability premium is included in your Income Support once you have been incapable of work for 52 weeks or you're in receipt of any rate of either component of DLA. Perhaps this is what you mean kkpolobear?
(Again it stops at 60 when you get Pension Credit as this is paid at a much higher rate than IS.)
A severe disability premium is included if you are awarded middle or higher rate of DLA care component. However there mustn't be any other adults in the household unless they too are in receipt of a qualifying benefit. Neither must anyone be paid Carers Allowance for looking after you.
(You continue to be entitled to it after 60)
If you are already in receipt of Income support when DLA is awarded then they should automatically pay you the relevant premiums backdated to the date of award of DLA. There should be no restriction on the amount of arrears.
They'll normally send a form out asking if anyone is living with you and/or anyone has claimed Carers Allowance for looking after you. I can't remember the name of the form but think it's an IS10.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
I forgot to say you can be paid all three of the premiums - the dp, sdp and edp if you meet the conditions.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

I get EDP at the moment but I am 57. Does the above mean I will be poorer when I hit 60? - if I last that long!Be nice to people who are on their way downYou never know when they are going to pass you on their way back up againYou cannot light your own candle by blowing out someone else's0 -

As Suelees has stated (very well I must add!) although you will cease to be eligible for IS at age 60 you will be eligible for Pension Credit instead which pays at a higher rate than IS, and so you should receive even more money! (PS Approximately 4mths prior to your turning 60 you should be informed about claiming Pension Credit instead of IS)
