I've used Tesco 3:1 DW tabs cut in half for about 3 years now and no probs.
If the load is very greasy I may use a full tab but don't do this very often. I tried Tesco Value ones but they were rubbish IMO

Lidl basic dw tablets are the cheapest and work perfectly. And you can break them in half rather than cutting :) I don't use any of the rinsing stuff either altho we are in a soft water area so maybe that helps?

After spending loads on Finish liquid tablets I read on here :D about the lidls 3 in 1 ones (shiny blue box) and i'll never look back! They're about half the price and just as good. We have morrisons own salt and rinse aid too, i'm not sure if they're necessary, but our dw has warning lights for them and they're cheap enough. HTH

re the soft /hard water - there should be recommendations for the use of salt in the instruction book. Ring your water board and ask gthem for the measurement for your postcode. Mine is so low that I don't need salt at all - the measurements come in "Clarkes" - one quick phone call is all it takes.

I use the Tesco value tabs and find them pretty good - but our water is so soft that it might make a difference.

My DW has warning lights for salt and rinse aid too - but I have simply ignored them for the last few years as the Lidls tablets already contain it, really not necessary to add any extra. Also I cut the tablets in half after reading about it here. Fantastic, a box lasts for ages now! Even more importantly, I now pollute at only half the rate. Sadly I cannot buy Ecover products around here.
