So if i go for this then i need to buy a 1m dish and a motor as well. Is there anythign else i need to buy.
Roughly how many channels can you pick up with this receiver.
Have a look here http://www.lyngsat.com/atlantic.html and here http://www.lyngsat.com/europe.html
A lot of these channels are encrypted and you will never be able to watch them. I mostly watch programs on 42E, 12.5W, 13E, 28.2E
The FTA Lidl receiver will receive a lot of channels away from Astra 28.2 east which has the UK channels, but most will be in a foreign language. It depends on how many satellites you can receive. Ideally you need a south facing mounting position for the dish with clear view of the sky, as ideally a motorised dish will swing from 42East to 45West. It depends what channels you want to watch or if you are just doing this for a hobby.
A 1m dish is the biggest you can have on a motorised diseqc mount as they can get damaged in strong gale force winds. You will also need coax cable to connect the dish to the receiver.
So in summary what you need is a receiver, dish, LNB, coax feeder (low loss type) diseqc motor, mounting brackets.
The Technomate when patched will receive channels in english that are not intended for the UK, but this can never be guaranteed how long they will last.
I have a system costing £600 or more, so this could be an expensive hobby.0 -
Will i need a 1m dish to pickup up channels broadcast from hotbird 3,4 at 13.0E or will i get away with either of the lidl dishes?0

Hotbird you can do with 60cm depending where you are in the uk and local obstructions etc....... 80cm is preferrable.
I've just installed my own motorised satellite system with a 90cm dish. and can receive satellites from 57w to 53 e. It's not as hard people tell you, with a little reading and patience.0
