Extending a sky+ aerial lead?

The sky dish is on the front of the house, and the engineer ran the new leads over the roof and down the wall to the back of the house
Are they allowed to run the leads over the roof? ..
Sky do not employ " engineers " to install Satellite, they employ installers, many are just trained monkeys.
No it is not good practice to throw a cable over the roof, it will rub on the apex, but this is Sky !!!

I'll ask for the organ grinder next time...

However, went to Argos, bought 2 x 10m lengths of extension cable & plugged them all on - and it works
So much easier than I thought it would be... Just need to find some plastic tubing type stuff to put them through & run along base of patio doors so it looks neat & I don't break my neck falling over bits of wire.

it is perfectley fine to run the cable over the roof provided it has been clipped to the roof every third tile or so,this is the way i install dishes,i dont work for sky but find the trained monkeys comment harsh as the majority of sky installers do a decent job0 -

What's the betting that the Sky Installer never clipped it to the tiles then?
They ( Sky ) ran their satellite cable in my next door neighbours guttering, fine until it snowed, and it all got pulled out when the snow came off of the roof.
I have seen many similar botched jobs done by Sky Monkeys.
Personally I would sooner run the cable through the roof space than over the roof top, less cable = less loss of signal, no chance of it rubbing on the apex, and far less unsightly.:rolleyes:0 -

Glad you are sorted, get some trunking to hide the cables...B&Q etc.;)0 -
this is fine if you get an independant installer, but for h&s reasons sky installers wont go in to a loft or roof space, unlees you are going to run a length of cable more than 45-50 metres ,as long as you use wf100 cable signal loss wont be a problem, another thing to remember is going through the loft in some house can lead to interference from things like other electical cables and even hot water boilers which will weaksn the signal, any lengths of cable over 50 metres which is very unusual i would us wf125 cable, are you a ariel/dish installer?stephen25uk wrote: »

,are you a ariel/dish installer?
Which proves my point about the fixing of the cable to roof tiles.
No, nor am I an aerial..( arial is washing powder  )/dish installer.
I have set up quite a few motorised Satellite systems though.

not going into a loft or roofspace proves your point about not fixing to roof tiles...
how do you come to that conclusion?0 -
Extension leads fitted & working perfectly - not sure why the analogue aerial cable was all still connected but took it out (or would have had to buy a 3rd extension!) and Sky still working perfectly.
Had a look at cables outside - I can't see the top of the roof (being only 5'4"...) but it is all very neatly & securely fixed to drainpipe where I can see. Looks like a very tidy job to me. Engineer would have had fun getting into my loft space as I do not possess a ladder of any description to get in there....
Found some trunking in homebase so that's all sorted as well

Because Sky will not allow them on to the roof, as well as not allowing them in the loft space, it's because Sky will not pay the insurance premium, so they let the " subbies " do those jobs.0
