Extending a sky+ aerial lead?

Not sure if this is the right forum to post on...?
I need to move my TV (and unit) from one side of my lounge to the other ready for when new huge sofa arrives. However, although I asked the Sky engineer to leave enough length on the aerial lead so it could be moved in the future, whenI had it installed (over a year ago), I have only just discovered that it isn't long enough.
Therefore I need to extend the aerial cable by a couple of metres. Can I just buy some cable & adaptor thingies & fix them on somehow, or do I need to get an engineer in to do this (and does anyone have a clue how much that might cost??) I'd also like an extra branch of the cable run along the outside wall & drilled through into my kitchen, so I can watch a TV out there as we still can't get freeview
And even if I did buy a freeview box, I'd still need an outside aerial to plug it into wouldn't I??
Thanks for any suggestions in advance

You need F plug cables. You can make them up yourself, but less hassle to just get a ready made one. Maplin sell them, as do Argos.
Remember if it's Sky+, you'll need two.
Edit : forgot to mention...power down the sky box while you do it as the cables carry a power feed to the satellite dish...won't kill you but can give you a thump & won't do wonders for the box if you catch yourself on it.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
i believe you can just extend it but the more connections you have in the cable the more chance of interference.
you are better off buying a new cable and connectors and fitting it from the dish to the boxYou got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -
Fplugs are easy peasy to fit best thing is to fit a new cable as ktuludays has posted all parts are available at srewfix toolstore and good DIY retailers. By reinstalling the cables you can route them the way you want to.
If all that is too much hassle you could fit a socket where the leads come into your home and then make up your own leadsMy opinions are purely my own act on them at your own risk :think:0 -

To watch sky from another tv you will need multi room or if you could get one of them digi sender thingys no need for any cable then like one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5345911/Trail/searchtext%3EWIRELESS.htmMy opinions are purely my own act on them at your own risk :think:0 -
Thank you

It will have to be the Fplug leads as there is no way I could manage anything more technical than that..!! The sky dish is on the front of the house, and the engineer ran the new leads over the roof and down the wall to the back of the house (as that's where the TV is) so I don't think I could manage to redo all that myself...
(Cheers also for info re unplugging as I wouldn't have done or even thought about it...!!)
The digisender idea is great - I'll give that a go too - would have been great last night when I spent all evening sitting in my kitchen while DD had a 16th birthday party here.....Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)

You just need a length of satellite cable, 2 x " F " Connectors and 1 x back to back " F " connector.;)0

Deffo by the sender from Argos...they can be tempramental about going through walls (and also interfere with wifi), so if you buy from there you can take it back if easily if it doesn't work....I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

Are they allowed to run the leads over the roof? Got my digisender unit from Argos, but have bought additional boxes for other rooms from ebay at a fraction of price...My husband also bought the cable etc., from a company on ebay. Very helpful and efficient and cheaper...Will find the name for you and let you know later....0 -

Thanks for that name Lexie, I'll check that out shortly...
I did wonder about the digi sender & my sky wireless router too - worth giving it a go though. Does it stop the internet from working so well, or is it the tv pic that doesn't come through properly?Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)
