I bought a DVD from a seller - Seller X - which was advertised as follows:
Universe Laser DVD
English subtitles
ALL REGION DVD
excellent condition
It was a film that I wanted, so happily bought it. I received it, and quite stupidly, left positive feedback because delivery was quick the item was in excellent condition. Today, I tried to watch to film, and tried it on my laptop and all the DVD players we have in the house, but it wouldn't work, due to its region, which is actually Region 3.
Because of this, I wrote to the seller:
Hi, I bought this item from you and left positive feedback before trying to watch it. I have now tried to watch it on all the DVD players in my house, and on all the computers. However, none of them have worked. In the description, you claimed the DVD is for all regions. I checked the case and the disc, and they both say that it is Region 3.#
Because of this, I would like for us to mutually remove the feedback I left you, as I feel it is now incorrect, and furthermore, I would like a refund of both the DVD and postage costs, after which I will send the DVD back to you.
In future, could you make sure you have gotten the Regional Code correct before posting a DVD, as you might get more people who are annoyed with their purchases.
Thank you
Do you think this is the best thing to have done?
I'll keep you all posted with what happens

did you pay by paypal? you are likely to be ignored as they have their money and have their feedback, Give them a few days to contact you, remembering it is a weekend, then if they haven't contacted you email again. Failing that if you paid via paypal and it is within 45 days you can open up a dispute and get your money back that way.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

yeh it was with paypal, so i could do that
how long should i wait after the weekend before a) sending another email and b) disputing with paypal?0 -
'All region' has overtones of a bootlegger.
Give an appropriate length of time for a response, then open a dispute. And check your purchases next time
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Now you mention it, the sleeve looks fake. Does anyone know whether Region 3 DVDs have ratings on them? You know, like we have U, PG etc.
There wasn't anything to make me suspect it was fake or wouldn't want or whatever. And Seller X had good feedback - 99.9% positive.0 -

You could always look for a download of DVD Shrink which will
a)let you copy the film and
b) select any or all of the world's regions for that copy.
Your email to the seller is perfectly fair and reasonable; whether he will respond in kind is anybody's guess. If he declines your suggestion I'd put it down to experience and go for DVD Shrink.

If you can't find it, let me know. I can email it to you (it's only 112kb).

This is a lesson i learned, never ever give feedback until they have given you one, especially before you have actually made sure the item is ok.0

personally I think this is where ebay can fall down, you are saying you will not leave feedback until the seller does? but the first person to know the transaction is complete is the buyer!!!! I.e buyer receives the item, yes they should then test it and if find a fault communicate with seller, but if all is well why does the buyer not leave feedback first in order to indicate transaction is complete? Or at least email seller to say all is fine.
As a seller I do not leave feedback for a buyer until i know the entire transaction is complete, i.e the customer has the goods and is happy with them. being a buyer is more than just paying quickly.
Just my thoughts
Richardif i had known then what i know now0 -

I understand that but if you have been wrongly given a neg then you end up trusting no one, i now have one neg to my hundreds of positives. What would you do in my case with this seller?0
