in Water bills
Afternoon all,
I have recently taken over the bills in our house (In Stockport, Cheshire) and found that we were paying £89 a month for our water bills (unmetered) to United Utilities. I have since fitted a water meter and my bills have gone down to £30, however I still think I was being well overcharged. This is the breakdown from my last bill....
Water
Water Standing Charge - 366 days at £47.00 per year
£47.00
Water RV Charge - 366 days at £47.00 per year x 68.60p
£320.36
WasteWater
Sewerage RV Charge - 366 days at £467.00 per year x 114.50p
£534.72
Direct Debit Discount £5.00cr
Total New Charges £897.08
That works out at £89 a month. I've spoken to United Utilities and they say I have been charged at the correct rate. However, comparing this to most people's on here it seems almost twice as much as everyone else's.
Do these figures look high to anyone else? If so, how can I go about getting a rebate?
Any comments much appreciated.

About 18 months ago a United Utilities RV water bill for my flat in Cheshire (council tax band A - I know not the same as RV but gives an idea of size / area) was about £550 per annum so I can imagine that a larger say 3 bed semi could easily be getting on for £900
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

i live in a rented 4 bed semi and the bill comes in at around £900 per year. considering there is only 2 of us for the foreseeable furture is there anything i can do, or is there any allowance i can claim due to the limited number of people in the property.Buying First House!!!!0 -

Ask your landlord if you can have a water meter fitted. If not, call the water company and explain that you are not allowed to have a meter fitted and they may allow an assessed charge (although I doubt it)I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Are you on a meter? If not, your house must have a low rateable value (RV)I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

We're in a 2 bed bungalow without a meter and are paying £34 a month total per year is approx £400
Was contemplating getting a meter seeing as we don't use half as much as my grandparents do with stuff like washing cars and gardening....but I don't know whether to bother.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
