isn't 0845 local rate anyway?0

There is no such thing now as local rate, these numbers are classed as lo-call? and are charged at different rates depending on you CPS e.g B.T. 3p per min daytime, geographical numbers can be called free depending on your call package, and these numbers are never included in them,or a 1p connection charge then nothing for the call if using 18866

Does it specifically have to be Virgin.net - or can it be any 56k ISP?
If you just want a 56k geographic connection, it helps to look for the phone numbers first, and then find out who the ISP for it is afterwards.
Start off by getting as many 56k geographic numbers as possible from SayNoTo0870. But SayNoTo0870 doesn't list very many - so use Google and Yahoo to search for other web pages containing phone numbers you have found from SayNo. This will probably give you more lists containing lots of other 56k geographic numbers, that you wouldn't have been able to find just by using SayNoTo0870 alone.
There are various different conventions for spacing in UK phone numbers - so try doing phrase searches for all of them - eg, 02012345678, 020-12345678, 020-1234-5678, 02012-345-678, 02012-345678, 0201-234-5678.
You want to find as many numbers as possible - but chances are, very few of them will actually work.
So you should dial each one manually in turn, to see if you get modem screech noises - those are the ones whose ISP's you should sign up for. There's no point in signing up for an ISP whose geographic number is constantly engaged, unobtainable or which rings out.
Last time I checked, the only number I've managed to get to work was BT Connect. 56k geographic numbers tend not to stay the same for very long.0 -
Hi dag, it does have to be Virgin.net as I am already with them and there is confusion re my DD set up which they messed up and I do not see why I should pay to phone them, I have emailed them twice but got no response other than an email today saying my DD had been cancelled.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

I used to use 01483881766, but it appears not to work anymore.0 -
Hi ohit
this number is just ringing out,but it is not a number to get on the net with that I want, but a number to connect me with a human being in the billing dept, of which the lo-call? number is 0845 6500130Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
