Just finished eating apple scrolls made with Looby Loos sweet bread recipe. Made before I had read the whole thread, so tried to use breadmaker yeast in usual way (ie by putting in water). Did not fizz so added another tsp. Still have turned out fantastic, although perhaps a bit yeasty. Next time will be perfect!

I often make mine more like baps. These are just as good. I've also shaped them into submarine rolls aswell.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

When you say breadmakers, do you mean bread making machines? Sorry to be thick. Until I read this thread (after I made my dough) I had always thought you had to start the yeast off in warm liquid.
Thanks so much everyone.0 -

Yeast comes in three forms -
fresh (looks a bit like putty),
dried yeast that you reactivate in warm liquid (looks like tiny beige beads)
easy-blend yeast sometimes called quick yeast or fast action dried yeast(looks like course beige powder). you add this one to the dry ingredients and then add the liquid.0 -
Aaah, all is revealed - I have never seen or used fresh yeast. Originally from NZ, and I am sure we didn't have it there. Will keep a look out.0

I use the 2lb tins as well. I'd quite like one of those larger 9" x 5" ones in Thriftlady's link, though.0

I use a old loaft tine but more like the middle bottom one. Would like to get a couple of the proper bread tins. To start with I made rolls and a loaf without of a tin. As previously said, a tin is more sandwich friendly.
Everyday I take a piece of bread out of the toaster it still amazes me how 'great' it tastes.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
