Gonna make my first steps into the world of handmade bread this weekend! Have had a good read through this thread but am wussing out and using the Hovis breadmixes for my first attempt, just to find my feet. Will for sure be going the whole hog once I have had my first go, its just that the mixes are 2 for £1 in Asda at the minute so it seemed rude not to give them a go!
Thanks for the tips and recipes everybody and I shall post back here after the long weekend to let you all know how I get on!

Good luck with it. Report back and try not to eat it all in one ogo. its terribly exciting!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

We love this panasonic, really lovely bread but the crusts wont go hard or dark, they are soft and wrinkled. Why is this?
Also, every single time, the paddle is embedded in the loaf and we have to half it to get it out. Why is this ? LOL questions !0 -
Hi,
Sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place! does anyone have a very simple recipe for white bread please as I have NEVER made bread before, and fancy giving it a go!!!

Hi Claire.
The recipe I use is this:
500g bread flour
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tsp sugar
1 Tsp salt
1 Tsp yeast (I use doves farm, comes in an orange packet)
300mls warm water
Mix them all up and knead for about 10 minutes. If you have a stand mixer like a kenwood chef or kitchen aid, use that and it'll save your arms! You want it to feel stretchy and smooth.
Pop it into a bowl and cover with cling film and leave to prove for about an hour until it's doubled in size.
Push you hand into the dough to squish the air out and knead it again, then put it into a greased bread pan, or shape into an oval or round shape and put on a baking sheet.
Cover with some kitchen towel or a tea towel for about 1/2 an hour, then bake in a hot oven (220C) for 30-40 minutes.
To test if it's done, tap the bottom of the loaf, it should sound hollow.
Enjoy!0 -

Is it just me or is the recipe not actually available on the page?

Hi claire,
There are a number of recipes on this earlier thread too:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the recipes and links together.
