Hey Got2change - just a quick one from me. I too have a veteran horse - 36 to be exact! Although mine is a huge amount to keep each month and far from cheap I will never part from her and she has given so much over the years that she owes me nothing.

Anyway cant offer any advice but just wanted to offer support. Your horse will let you know when it is time and nothing and no one (really bad english there!) should tell you otherwise.

Mine has so far recovered from a broken leg, a minor stroke and a bad case of colic - she is indestructable!

ps - I know it is horrible to think about but I want my mare cremating when the time comes and most places do a monthly payment plan of around £18.00 or so - they will collect your horse and return the ashes to you in a casket x x x x

Thank you Penguin...... you know where I'm coming from then icon7.gif

When you say they will collect - would that be "after"? (They don't do the injection etc, I take it?)

36!!!!!!!! That's mares for you I say. Is she a Thoroughbred? Hero is and I think 27 is a good age (same as Desert Orchid was when he died and they loook very very similar although mine is more handsome of course.....) - I don't think he will get through another winter but I have said that for a good few years (he was diagnosed with Navicular about 7 years ago but only retired 2 years ago when being ridden for exercise was obviously not doing him any favours).

Anyway, I must not stray too far OT (I could ramble all day about horses); thanks again for your support.

She is a Thoroughbred x Welsh - its the welshie in her thats made her so tough I think. I have a huge problem with her weight in the winter, she has never been a good doer and I think when her time comes it will be a winter.

The company that was recommended to be a friend who recently lost hers was the Horse Cremation Service. Hers was pre arranged so they were there at the same time as the vet put her to sleep. They do say they will be with you within 4 hours in an emergency.

Here is a Linky to their website. As I say luckily I havent had to use them myself yet but have had them recommended by people who have x x

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.
