Hi
I'm not sure this is proper forum. I need help for turning my wharfedale dvd player into hometheater.
I'm planning to buy bose speakers, if so how do i connect these to my dvd player? do i need to buy an amplifier which takes input from dvd player and makes into 5:1?
which amplifier is best? Can somebody give suggestion please.

It depends on your DVD player, does it have the inbuilt 5.1 amp. If you are getting BOSE speakers to go on a Wharfdale system that is a serious mismatch, why don't you look for a nice BOSE lifestyle system0

If you really want to do it, then you'll need either a digital coax out or an optical out on the dvd player, and likewise either of this connections as inputs on a seperate amplifer, before attaching any speakers to the amp.
But as previous poster says 'serious mismatch!' either get an all in one Bose system or I'd suggest at least upgrading the dvd player.0 -
you will need a AV receiver(like a amp just google it)... then basicly connect your dvd player using either optical/digi lead or by coax(most dvd players will have both coax and/or optical - check the back or look in your manual), to the av receiver, then you can plug your speakers and a sub into the av receiver, either 5.1 or 6.1 etc then you can enjoy true cinema effect surround.. DTS/5.1DD etc
if you need more help try the tech guys at www.avforums.com they will answer most questions you will have..
i have a yamaha av receiver myself, which is very good for the money.. friends/family are amazed how real and good it sounds, esp. saving private ryan in dtsI dont owe nothing, I own everything I have... dont do buy now pay later, dont do credit cards, dont do loans...0 -
Hi
This is "wharfedale" is just not a dvd player. it's got hard disk so i copy the programmes from tv. this doesn't have 5:1 out just normal scart out. That's the reason i can't change. Thanks for the replies.0 -
What model is the Wharfedale. It would be very unusual to not have some kind of digital sound output, either optical or coax (looks like a single phono socket)
You need an av amp and a 5.1 speaker package. Have a look at www.richersounds.com. They've normally got pretty decent stuff for all sorts of budgets. How much are you willing to spend?
How about a set of these speakers

Together with this amp

I have the speakers so can vouch for the sound. Yamaha are considered as very well established in the AV amp market."...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -

Can you email me a picture of the rear of the player? I have read the spec and it says nothing about digital outputs.
I have sent you a PM with my email address.0 -
Hi
I can't access my personnel mails in my office. I'll send u the picture in the evening.

If you want to get 5.1 sound, your Wharfedale DVDR will need either a coaxial S/PDIF or optical TOS digital output. The specification on the Argos website (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5335983/Trail/C$cip=1500006565.Sound+and+vision%3EC$cip=1500006604.DVD+and+video%3EC$cip=1500006607.DVD+recorders.htm?storeId=10001&referredURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fstatic%2FProduct%2FpartNumber%2F5335983%2FTrail%2FC%24cip%3D1500006565.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D1500006604.DVD%2Band%2Bvideo%3EC%24cip%3D1500006607.DVD%2Brecorders.htm&jspStoreDir=argos&referrer=COJUN&cmpid=COJUN) says it only has two channel stereo output and mono sound, which is a bit confused. If all it really has is a stereo pair, the best you'll get is Dolby Prologic output, which is stereo plus a single mono rear surround channel. If it's a single mono channel output to both the left and right stereo outputs, you won't even get that.
Can you put a photo of the back panel online somewhere?0
