Will this drill work? - I did it!!!!

Options
:o Here I am again.

Not very MSE, bought a drill - full price, without thinking, because it was pink.

There isn't a smiley ashamed enough.

So, got it all charged (as per instruction booklet) and checked instructions for drilling. It is suitable for wood, plastic or metal. Does this mean that it is unsuitable for drilling into a brick wall? How about tiles (project after this one)? If I had a go anyway (my instinct) would it go horribly wrong. Don't want to give OH opportunity to gloat.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

As it doesn't mention drilling brickwork it probably isn't a hammer drill and so won't find drilling masonry so easy. It will still do it , though, with the right bit (drill bit that is;) ).

    Tiles will be fine.

Thank you so much for helping.

I have some dark coloured bits and some bits tipped with red. I think the bits tipped with red are the masonry bits. I can fiddle with those as I need to.

    I feel all excited!!!!

Masonry bits are a different shape. They have small 'wings' at the tip.

If you post the make and model number we can tell you if its a hammer drill and suitable or not for masonry drilling.
Oh and buy yourself a pipe and wire detector before you start drilling !!!!!!!!!!

    I'm definitely female :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you so much for your help.

    :o The drill is a 12 V cordless - I'll copy the label.

    Adaptor - 230V 50 Hz No Load Speed - 0-500rpm Chuck dia 10mm Torque 16+1

It is labelled 'The Pink Drill Kit'. :o Any sniggering is perfectly understood.

I am on MSE partly because of the impulsive behaviour that led me to buy not only a pink drill but a pink tool kit. Yesterday, when I put up a picture (all by myself :j:j:j big deal for me :o) I used a pink hammer and it is not a euphemism.

DH has a detector 'somewhere' so I am on a search mission now.

Thank you for the link. I really appreciate the help I am getting.

(just as a BTW. I don't think DH knows that much more than me which is really worrying)

Please don't tell us you are learning to play the pink oboe.

Honestly, this tool box came with a pink hammer, pink spanner, pink scissors, pink tape measure, pink screwdriver, pink spirit level, pink snap off bladed knife... At least the oil that was included wasn't pink

I think I will leave the pink oboe well alone, at least for the purposes of posting on MSE :p

Just want to say, appreciate all the help.

when drilling the tiles, use the slowest speed possible and take it easy.
let the bit do the work. just use slight hand pressure.
and if it does have a hammer action, then turn it off.
    Get some gorm.

The best advice i can give bearing in mind that your taking note of the advice given...

DONT buy tools based solely upon their colour ..fullstop

For the same money you could have got a decent corded hammer drill from say Wickes which would be upto any job.
