Is eBid a tad similar to eBay? ???

Good for electrical clearance, but read the listings carefully for details of any damage to the goods. Also the delivery charge /time is different depending on (a) the size of the item and (b) where in the country it's currently situated.

Bought a brand new (but slightly dented) fridge/freezer from them recently.

Also, ensure you complete the whole registration process including all card details BEFORE you try any last-minute bidding on items. There was a problem with verifying the card details first time round, which meant I missed the end of an auction !

these ones are not actually auction sites but free classified ads sites, which means you can sell items without having to pay any fees.

+ though its been going for ages in america, Craigslist.
The UK version/s, including the London version has only started relatively recently

    http://london.craigslist.com
    http://manchester.craigslist.com
    http://edinburgh.craigslist.com
    http://dublin.craigslist.com

Ebay saw Craigslist as such a threat that it bought a lot of shares in the company recently.
  • Auction LotWatch has what it claims is a complete list of UK auction sites at http://auctionlotwatch.com/auctions.html.

I've started using eBid as well as eBay. It's not as slick and there are nowhere near as many bidders/sellers, but you can post things for free and leave them there until they sell, not just for a maximum of 10 days. It does cost £2.94 to get Silver status, which you need if you want to sell; that money goes to the card verification company, not to eBid. Sellers can also specify that nobody with less than Silver status is allowed to bid on their lots, which reduces the risk of them getting non-paying bidders.

Have also looked at QXL and CQOut but there doesn't seem to be much on them.

    Amazon have auctions -

    http://s1.amazon.co.uk/exec/varzea/subst/home/home.html/ref=br_bc_h_1_13/026-1932465-1568451

Also, new items from their New and Used Marketplace are sometimes cheaper than Ebay and buying from Amazon themselves.

Click on http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/3239791/ref=br_bc_h_1_14/026-1932465-1568451 to browse the store, or simply search for a product from the main home page; if other merchants are selling the product, click on the New and Used link against the item.

Delivery charges for Marketplace items are on http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/3149611/ref=w_h__brbx_c_1_2/026-1932465-1568451
I thought referral links had to go on the referral board...
  • Ebid is one of the latest newcomers and better still it is free to use at a minimum level.
The only people who truly make money from ebay are ebay themselves as they put restrictions and rules onto sellers that are frankly illegal in the UK auction house rules.
The biggest drawback with ebid is that not enough people know about it and therefore users and buyers are low, but you don't get charged for unsuccesful auctions etc.
For money savers this site is by far the best as the savings by sellers are passed onto the buyers ;);)
    through lower postage costs.
ebay should really change it's name to ripoffbay as the small seller has so many costs on them that it is almost prohibative too use.
Please buyers check them out and end the tyrany of ebay. :o

Does anyone know if the 'Bumblebeeauction' website will accept bids from bidders who live miles away from the collection points ....... by those bidders arranging for a 3rd party collection?

Seen some nice stuff, but I can't get to the collection points :( ..... BUT I can arrange for a courier to collect!!! :D

A friend of mine bought a Sony Vaio laptop from BumbleBee and he had it delivered. One word of caution though, remember that the items available are usually untested with no guarantee - his laptop was in german and had a german BIOS password!! Luckily it reset after removing the BIOS battery and he got away with it, some might not be so lucky!

For the 'magpies' amongst us, why not try https://www.delcampe.com ?. This is a continental website that auctions collectables. You are dealing with continental sellers, in the main. Some speak English. Free registration and very cheap to sell on. Works in 3 languages. Suggest you put
http://babelfish.altavista.com on your favourites so that you can get those language translations done.

    http://www.bidupuk.com
Also you get a free £5 opening balance

Is this the same as the sky tv channel?
