I must get the PC Pro issue that has those owner satisfaction poll results, I think I missed it this year (Feb ?) .. hmm maybe a library ?
thanks for your views, isofa.
I can speak with first hand experience of Mesh computers customer and technical support. I'd say the Watchdog report on the was quite accurate and representative. If it were down to simply being unlucky then there'd be one or two things I could complain about at most, but their repair centre every single time sent the PC back in a worse condition than it left. The build quality is extremely poor, one time it came back with coffee spilled all over it. The last of the problems (which all started with needing to replace a burned out graphics card) was nine months after it started and they posted another replacement graphics card but by that point I simply gave up (it was my parents' pc) they had bought their own card and I installed it myself. This was back in August. Just yesterday I found another problem stemming from their build quality, missing jumpers on some sound pins, I'd been spending the last couple of days trying to work out why the sound wasn't working (mum had only just got an iPod and had not used the PC's speakers before).
My overall review before this latest incident is summed up here: http://trust.hexus.net/company_list.php (under Mesh and same username). I'd point you to the original threads on the hexus forums but Mesh decided to pull their support boards and start up their own forums (I'm guessing they'd have more censorship that way). So my summing up actually doesn't list every single bad incident, merely most of them.
I was very active on the Mesh support forums because of this and if it were merely me having extremely bad luck (how can one person get so many things going wrong and so many of the bad apples in customer support?) it doesn't explain the extraordinary number of other people with similar problems. The support forums are by nature a self selecting sample but considering the sheer repetition and number of problems compared to other companies I don't think it's a matter of being unlucky in a few cases of customer support.
I'd like point out that my awful experience was before, during and after the Watchdog report and Mesh's promise of CS service improvement. I can categorically say there was absolutely no difference after the Watchdog item. Things were just as bad as ever. You'd think they'd take even more care after being on TV with a customer that had been having long term problems with them but their build quality assurance and testing was non existent.
So I just wanted to say that as far as I'm concerned bnorth's perception of Mesh is completely spot on. I've had problems with other companies so it's not like I have no basis for comparison, Mesh by far are the worst company I've ever dealt with bar none. And I'm including ALL companies, not just PC companies.
People may have Mesh computers that work fine which is great, but if anything goes wrong don't expect much help and the onsite warranty isn't upheld much either."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks for all the help. I did a lot of web searching and ended up finding a suitable system on the Dell Outlet for under £200, it was on the site for £226 excluding vat but when I went through their options there was a 'buy now save voucher' which knocked £57 off the price
Inspiron 530
Intel E2160 Dual core 1.8Ghz
XP Pro
2GB RAM
320GB HDD
Very chuffed.
Thanks for the help.

i would dearly love to give you a full run-down of the problems i have been having with Mesh / Repair Line (appointed warranty provider - until last month) but i really don't think my sanity would take it! suffice to say my advice would be to look at the Ts and Cs very carefully and work out exactly who you are dealing with with regards to the PC, warranty, upgrade and repair. I wish i liked Nicky Campbell more because i would've watched Watchdog and seen the Mesh report....................
Every company must have happy and unhappy customers i'm sure , but i wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.Needs must when the devil vomits in your kettle..........0 -

I have used these guy's for years both for business and personal, they are very competitive on price and always willing to help.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
