What websites are cheap for PC systems? I dont need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers just a decent base unit to replace my current one. Preferably dual core, 2gb and running Windows XP Pro.
Where does everyone else buy theirs?

I would always recommend Dell.0

I've used Komplett and Novatech in the past. PCSpecialist are supposed to be pretty good as are Cyberpower but I don't have personal experience of them. I've also heard good things about Gladiator Computers. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Meets your criteria0

I've heard a lot of good things from these people, very fast delivery, not in the U.K tho, (France I think )

Weve bought 2 dells in the past 6 months and are happy with them, both dual core but running vista premium/basic and both were far cheaper than the one we got built for us a few years ago, our pc is vostro 400 with 3072 mb ddr and 2 x 500 gb with dvd-rw and dvd drive, wireless card and card reader £344, my daughters is vostro 200, 2048 mb ddr and 500 gb and with the same add ons as ours but was £276. You do get the option to change o.s to xp in the dell options. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

I've purchased several Dell towers, just the base unit, without a monitor (and if they have to come with keyboard/mouse I specify the cheapest available as I've already got those). You can do this over the phone if you can't on-line with them.
In fact once I did this, they sent the monitor free anyway, which I donated to someone else!
Other's I'd recommend include Mesh (although many moan about the support) - the Elite Pulse HD is very good value at the moment, including Blu-ray.0 -

Its a shame Evesham are in trouble they were good too.
cougar extreme seems to get an (almost suspicious) amount of good press particularly on the PC Advisor forum
I'd avoid Eclipse computers - although regularly plugged by mags they have an awful lot of bad feedback on product reliability and customer service

Complete with links to all our horror stories about them..."

Faulty on arrival - notified them immediately.
Collected computer on 3rd Jan, tried to charge for repairs, which I refused.
Still waiting for money back 25 Mar 08.
They've had my money for more than 4 months and for most of that they've had my computer as well!!

Mesh gets some bad feedback but have they improved since they were slated on Watchdog last year ??0 -

I can't comment on Mesh support because I've never used or own one. But their machines appear very good, and have done for many years. They still regularly win recommended awards in various mags including PC Pro, Shopper etc. So as long as you can cope with switching out a faulty component occasionally (if it fails), I guess they are fine.
Evesham were good, many years ago, but have been failing for quite some time before the collapse last year. I used to buy large quantities for projects from them, but 5-6 years ago I personally had a lemon machine from them, with a hardware fault, they couldn't solve it, didn't replace it, (but swapped all sorts of components) didn't offer me a good solution, so I never used them again.I think it was a combination of parts which clashed, still put me off them for life, I need reliability!
For everyone who's had a good experience, you'll find someone with a bad experience. Bad experiences are always well reported as people want to vent, but good service often goes unrewarded.0
