DFS sofa problem

I had a lovely new sofa from DFS in december, its a four seeter with high sides. The sides were put on in my home by DFS assembly team as it wouldnt fit through the door with them on.This was arranged when I ordered the sofa in store.
A couple of weeks ago one of the sides came loose and is wobbling about, OH rang DFS who asked if anyone had sat on the side, why would anyone sit on the side of a four seeter sofa.We do lean our arm on the side when sitting in that seat but to be honest we dont sit at that end very often its the closest to the door.
They are sending someone out on Monday but have warned that if they believe the damage was caused by someone sitting on the side they wont fix it, now im really worried that this is what they will say to get out of fixing it and I dont know what we will do then. The sofa is immaculate you can see it is well looked after.
Has anyone had any dealings with DFS, are they fair or will they try it on and if they do what can I do about it.
OH was dithering about saying hel pay to get it fixed but why should we if we are not responsible.

Couldn't it just be that one of the bolts have come loose
Did you pay by credit card?

No real help, but if they get funny I suggest trading standards.

We bought a sofa from SCS (like DFS) and I can honestly say after 6 months it looked awful.

If they claim you have damaged it,I would ask they exactly how they have come to that conclusion.
If you had to take them to the small claims court, they will have to prove the fault wasn't there when you purchased it.
I should't worry-unless you have (or your kids have been sitting on the arm).Best to put any communication in writing, sent recorded delivery.

Yes that is probably what has happened, it was just the way they said about someone sitting on it on the phone before they had even come to look at it, that made me think they would try to get out of repairing it.
When I think of it the wobbling movement is side to side, if someone had sat on it which they havnt it would be pushed down not to the side.

Hi, Contact trading standards, I think that if goods are under 6months old the fault is deemed to have been present at time of purchase IE manufacturing fault.Give trading standards a ring and hopefully they will be able to verify this point for you !

Hope this helps and good luck !

Why not just wait for DFS to have a look at the fault before shopping them to consumer direct/trading standards/fbi etc.

It may well just be a loose bolt, they might have a problem with people sitting on the arms and breaking them which is why they interrogated OP?

See what they say when they turn up.

    I would not worry.

I wasn't suggesting that the OP poster report them to consumer direct, I was suggesting that they phone them for some verification on consumer law ie that if goods are under 6 months old the fault is deemed to have been present at time of purchase and therefor it is the retailers responsibility to put right ! This will give the OP poster some knowledge about their rights should DFS claim that the arm came loose through misuse.

The OP purchased the item in dec so the six months time limit is approaching should problems arise
