chicarg .... yes i did to .... ive sold a large number of laptops on ebay and most cost around £17 to send insured ....

it would be interesting to know how much they cost to send and to be returned out of warranty , but to be honest after one year these laptops could be almost classed as disposable .

when i bought my dell inspiron 1000 laptop , 10 months ago it was £485 , i phoned dell and asked for the laptop at £445 with a 15" screen and a cd writer , they agreed after speaking to a supervisor ..... however i had been turned down on two occasions during that week .

dell are sales driven and its all about numbers ........ if you are considering a dell or any other laptop for that matter just be persistant .

Through the small biz section the same laptop is only £299

I thought british law states that you MUST get a 12month warranty with every new purchase.

So dell selling 90 day CAR cover shouldnt mean a thing really.

£299 plus vat and postage isn't it ?

I think you get a 12 month warranty but have to return it yourself after the 3 month CAR period.

I don't think the Sale of Goods Act applies to business transactions though. That's why if you buy in places like Macro - where all buyers should be trader/business owners you have no rights under the SOGA.

90 day CAR warranty does not void your rights under the SOGA - what it means is that Dell will pay the costs of collecting and returning the laptop to you if it fails.
After the 90 days you are still covered under SOGA but you will have to pay to send the machine to Dell for repair (and probably to have it sent back as well).

If the goods are faulty and you buy as a private purchaser - not a business the SOGA covers you. If you are out of pocket due to returning item for repair then the retailer has to reimburse you the cost. You simply submit a letter claiming the cost. If they refuse take advice from TS as to the best way to recover the money. The Act does not mention specific times that you should expect goods to last - it merely says for a reasonable period which is in relation to the type of goods and price paid. Therefore if you buy a top of the range washing machine at £1000 you could reasonably expect it to last much longer than a £300 machine. After 12 months it will usually be necessary to sue in the small claims court to achieve satisfaction, but it has been done.

Yes its £299 + vat + delivery = £408.90 all in. Its funny because normally the small business section is a bit cheaper overall because you have less rights of returning the item etc if you aren't a private individual thus they can drop the price a bit. (i think!)

As people have said DELL are playing with specs and prices.

I suppose it is to manage inventory before for new term, and to get ready for XMAS...

Curries had a nice Toshiba with nearly the same spec, but at £100 more than this Dell. I like Toshiba but the Dell at this price (+2.5% Greasy Palm on cost of unit ex VAT: £200+ 2% cashback on the credit card) seems a great deal.

Does anyone have a link to this deal as it only shows the cost as £449 after I have changed to 90 CAR!!!
