I'd advise you check your credit files straight away, this could be fraud.

I got turned down 3 times by vanquis and now I have them
I'm trying to rebuild my credit file and i started off with 39% apr and a credit limit of £250 after paying off two statements they doubled my limit. I also have had capital one for 6 years a limit of £200 which they have never increased so vanquis is good in my book.

Gotta agree with that misscutiepie.
I got Vanquis card (after being rejected for everything else) June 2007, with limit of £250.
Since then I've managed it well and never missed a payment and now I've got a credit limit of £1,500 without even asking.
I still can't get mainstream card, but at least I'm building lots of Green SMiley faces on my credit report

Nothing wrong with Vanquis. People will be wanting free money next. Their T&Cs are very clear and plainly worded.
They do give them to people others wouldn't but they still expect you to have a phone and answer a few questions. Just look after it and keep it in credit (I got my son one with the understanding he'd use it strictly as a debit card but have all the protection of a credit card ie he tops it up before spending). It's also good in an emergency.

Ok, in defence of Vanquis I must say that there customer service is sound, clear English speaking "British" people who understand that we all don’t fly high with AMEX and MBNA et al, they take a risk on the most un-credit worthy people around and they are a responsible lender too - they will not give you a stupid credit limit to start off with and increase it over time.
If it wasn't for Vanquis people like me who are stuck in the sub prime market for the foreseeable future would never get the chance to work our way up to the main stream cards. They are a basic no-frills rate for risk lender who genuinely help their customers in so many ways, payment holidays, CV writing service along with other back to work schemes and if you are good they will upgrade you to their Gold Visa which is typically 19% APR - oh by the way, a final thought to those of you whining about MBNA putting your APR up to 35%, Vanquis have set my purchase APR at 33.3%.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
I just wanted to add, I've got a vanquis card and my apr started at 38% it has gone down to 34% and I have had my initial £200 limit raised a few times it is now up to £2500, although I wouldn't ever want to run it up that high it does give me some flexibility, and hopefully I will be accepted for a better card in the not too distant future. Also as said above, their CS is excellent.....

To echo Proliant, Vanquis do excellent customer service, and the rate is fair enough considering the risk they take on with their targeted demographic. They were great for me, and helped me a great deal.0

How long did it take to get a larger limit with them? my brother has had a card for 2 months and was wondering if it goes up on the 4th statement?0

For me, I think it was like this:
June 2007 (open card) - £250
November 2007 - £500
March 2008 - £1000
October 2008 - £1500
I can't remember exactly. I know it started off about every three statements, now it's a little longer between.0 -
Mine went up after 3 statements, at which point I asked them to put it back down! I don't like the fact that they don't have online banking but apart from that I can't fault them.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0
