I completed on my flat too recently, I had been a diilusioned first time buyer for 3 years watching prices rocket. Finally decided to take the plunge when I realised I actually needed somewhere to live, instead of making an investment

Only downside is it suddenly becomes very expensive living on your own, after living with my parents for 3 years! Never knew I ate so much.Save save save!!0 -
hmm, yes you do have to fill the fridge yourself, but on the plus side you can make holes wherever you want - for shelves, pictures etc [not knocking down walls....] - without asking anyone's permission
also you can paint your own place in lurid/nice colours - it's YOUR choice0 -
THis can get interesting when you ahve a partner though. If I'd have let him my OH would have every room purple (don't ask..safer)Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Well....he actually asked me in a round about way and I told him no. We'd already picked a nice lilac carpet for the bedroom. We then went looking for a sofa. The one he liked was purple.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

What a sensitive comment to make.
So house prices have doubled in five years and a whole generation are shut out of buying a house simply because we're all "too mean".
Yes, ahahaha, let's all laugh at the poor people.

Ignore the partypoopers! They are just jealous and bitter as they can neither afford to buy their own house or are too mean to, seems to me they prefer wasting money giving it to a landlord to line their pockets! They will pay rent FOREVER if they never buy, your mortgage will be PAID OFF in 25 years and you will OWN your house outright. Jealousy is a bitter pill to swallow for some people it seems
I can never understand this thing about wasted or dead money when it comes to renting. Where would you been most likely under a park bench as you would have no where to live
.
A couple advantages of renting. No maintance as it is not your property and if you live in rented property when you retire and you have no income or very little then you would get help. If you go in to care, no house to have to be sold to pay for care fees. And it makes you very mobile as you can give notice of one month and leave. not so easy with a mortgage.
But if you have a house even without a mortgage still maintance to carry out. And if you need to go in to home and don't have cash they sell your home (if you live alone)to pay the fees.
So there are the good and bad sides to owning v's renting.
And yes I do or rather the bank owns my house at the moment until I pay the mortgage off.

Well done Calley. Intelligent comments, rather than just "whoopeee ain't I brill, I own my own home...except I don't really cos I'm renting it off the bank rather than a landlord".
Remind us all again what the point of the original post was? Wanting advice? Offering money saving tips? Nope, none of those things.0 -

Like you were sensitive when my cat died? I think not...if you are looking for sensitive when you don't give it, look in the dictionary!~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0 -
I think I was very pleasant to your when your moggy snuffed it.
It was some other herbert who was mean to you.
But let's not turn this thread into another "let's kick mean old meanmachine" rant.
Even I get bored of that, much as I love the attention.
Congrats to the OP. You're now a mortgage slave.
