Goldfish or hamster?

Hi everyone
Just had visit from someone from housing association to assess my eligibility to apply for social housing-I thought I'd have to try to start thinking seriously about my options if I have to leave my property-which, in terms of affordability and sustaining my mortgage, seems quite likely (don't know yet what view Or will take about house, as I've mentioned before)

Anyway, it was another step to face -hammers home the reality of it all and the need to be prepared to accept change and to try and stay positive about it as much as possible.
One thing that upset me though was that I was told that my daughter and myself could only be considered for a 2 bedroomed flat (that wasn't the upsetting thing!) and that pets were not allowed. He asked me if I had any pets and I explained that unfortunately not, and that my cat was buried in the garden( that was the upsetting bit to which he made no reply!)
He then said that I could have a goldfish or a hamster but no dogs or cats!
Just made me feel it was the end of an era-even though my lovely cat is no longer alive-not a good feeling to think of potentially leaving him behind in the garden he used to love slinking about in!
Thanks for listening!x Hope you don't think I'm barmy!

    Hi Faeriequeen

Sounds like you are having a bit of a `down` day honey ...lots of <<hugs>> to cheer you up a little.

Feelings of uncertainty are normal during periods of change & it does take time to prepare yourself to `move on`.

If HA only offer limited housing then what about a letting agent or estate agent or even private landlord (recommendation is best). Do your homework & see whats out there. I have 3 dogs ( very lively border collies) & I was heartbroken at the prospect of letting them go...luckily within 2 days I found a few properties that were well in budget & pet friendly.

Sometimes the HA are have very fixed ideas when you first meet them, I think this is to put people off as their housing is usually limited...don`t be deterred..there are many HA`s out there so get on all the lists.

Hey i have 3 cats and 2 dogs. The cats are a pain now we have the dogs but if any one of them was to go it would hurt like hell. You have to be an animal lover to understand and if i had one of mine burried in the garden and had to leave i would be tempted to dig it up and take it with me. Not a nice thought but def an idea. Tm is another day. Get through today first girl!.DX

Ooooh Dalip... not a nice thought but I know what you mean. When we left our last house I had to go out into the garden where our last cat was buried & say goodbye !! ...I even told the new owners to look after him!!!

Bet they thought I was a nutter...like you say you have to be an animal lover to understand.

    xx

Yeah yeah .. was just feeling a bit sorry for myself that i'd never had a pet.

Used to take my carpet for walks and everything!

(No idea where I got that name from but it stuck... didn't bother with a new name either when the first squerm got a bit worn)
