how to get out of a mobile phone contract

Hi there,
I am new to the forum (so please bear with me)!!
I currently have a contract with vodavone and it is due to last another 18 months.
Can anyone please tell me what the cost would be to terminate my contract earlier or if you can cancel your contract early.
I do not want to change contract just go back to pay as you go.

I have been in my contract with vodaphone for about 3months.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks

How long is your contract ? 21 months ??? strange.

    anywhoo

You can lower your price plan down so it is the cheapest possible (normally only after 6 months though), then it is monthly line rental X how many months are left = what you pay to pay off the contract.

You could sell your phone on ebay to get the money to pay the above.

Why do you want to cancel ?
  • The contract is for 18 months because vodaphone said that was the contract term.

I want to sell because it is i am using more minutes than my free ones and i can't afford to go on a tariff where you get more minutes.

If i went on pay as you go - if i had no credit i wouldn't be able to use the phone!

    Thanks

Ok , so you have around 15 months left then.

The only thing you can do is what i said, lower your line rental, sell the phone and pay off the contract.

Other than that, you signed the contract and are liable for all call charges and the line rental until you cancel.

There's no easy way out i'm afraid.
  • Ok,
Thanks for your help anyway, i will give vodaphone a ring and see what they have to say.

    Thanks again

Why dont you call vodafone and ask them to disable out going calls once you have used up your mins, or get used to resetting your call timers every month then when you have went over just be strong and dont use it,try getting people to call you instead of you calling them or keep calls to arrangements only or tell wee white lies saying that you have no credit in your phone as at this point your stuck with it you either use it carefully or pay off and waste loads of money as you will have to pay for the remaining 15 months unfortunatley.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

if you call now it will be 15 months x line rental, maybe with a small discount for paying up, in 3 months you will be able to downgrade and pay 12 months x lower line rental.

I'd say self control is the cheapest option, then sell the phone to offset the loss
