    Reality is that landlord is putting rent up, if OP does not like it, wont pay it, be prepared to move out.

    Landlord has valued the rent to be that amount, and hence set the limit.

    This aint a market in tunisia, you cant haggle a better price..

    Pay up, or move on out..:j :beer: :j

    Our LL put up ours £60 p/month a couple of years ago , we went halves after a good chat

    Well versed in the real world thanks , having rented for many years and now a homeowner , it`s just a case of spotting an !!!!!! , which in ths case was quite easy.....

    As for your ramblings , go preach to someone that wants to hear it ,hard , but not impossible...

    And as for not being able to haggle rent...welcome to the real world:rolleyes:

    we have a 3 year tenancy which is up on the 10 June, during this time we haven't had a rent increase.

    Because of this we are moving, as I personally don't feel the property warrants having more paid for it!

    In our area most properties like this (2 bedroom) will rent for about $600 plus, mainly because people want to live here for the snob value!

    Good luck in sorting it out, perhaps a haggle would benefit you, as previously advised.

  • I would refuse the increase and go elsewhere.

    Buy to Let has been a huge shambles and many land lords are going to have to subsidise rents to pay their mortgage. My partner has to pay £100 per month over and above what he gets in rent to pay his mortgage, adding that amount onto the rent would leave him without a tenant!

    The truth is that not only is it becoing a buyers market in house buying, it is becoing a tenants market in renting. There are more flats for rent than there are tenants. As k your landlord how he intends to pay his increased mortgage with no tenants.

    If all else fails, most cities have a large selection of empty luxury apartments whose rents are taking a nose dive as they are way over priced. You should be able to get something pretty smart for your money in these times of turbulance.

    In summary, why should you bear the cost of his variable rate mortgage. That is ridiculous and so are you if you agree to pay it.
