Does this price for a patio extension sound OTT?

Hi All,

I've just had a quote for extending a patio. We've currently got one that is 3m x 3.6m and would like to extend this to 5.8m x 6.7m so the extra area is approx 28m2. The garden is level so the groundworks would be to dig down, lay hardcore and then level and lay slabs on top. The slabs we're looking at (to match what's currently down) are Riven grey (60x60cm) and approx £5 per square meter. The price is £2050 which is working out at £73 per sqm. It seems on the high side to me but would appreciate any pointers that you could give me! I'm based in mid sussex (Haywards Heath).

Digging down how far? How much Earth to be took away? Whats the access like from Garden to Skip and how far?

macduf - Digging down approx 12 to 15 inches, access to skip on driveway via side gate (approx 12m away), the garden is level so there'll be approx 9m3 worth of soil to remove (quick calc).

I paid a guy £100 for about 3 1/2 squ metres. This was a funny shape, so a few cuts, laid on gravel and sand, with no real digging out. He did work for the council though, so I'm not sure where he sourced the materials.......
