RS21 Watchdog. 5 Year NO or Replacement YES! SIMPLE STEPS!

Hello,

I bought a new RS21 1st July 2006 and it broken down after 15 months (Oct2007) with that fault that was on bbc watchdog on monday night!

I called samsung and they come out and did a free upgrade but I also said I wanted £150 for the loss of food which they said no. However I was really fed up as I used to have a like model which also broke down 3 times in 5 years (However that has nothing to do with the replacement that i was issued with today)

However. After watching watchdog, I phoned them on monday night and said I have dixons 5 year cover plan and thats not the point REFUSE IT I said that i wanted a replacement model that does not have this fault. They said all samsung was going to do was give a free 5 year upgrade.

I said that this was not right. Why should i have to be without a fridge and freezer because of a fault with this product. I was on the phone 8 times and i basically said you have a choice replace it or ill take legal action as i reckon this item was not fit for purpose.

I had this model RS21DLMR and was today issued a replacement or credit note for £1000 from dixons but as dixons do not offer this model i took this one RSH1DLMR valued at £1150!

My basic arguements was.

1/ Why should i have a item that will/may/can break down as the upgrade with the heat will only work for a limited time. (12-18 months)
2/ I am a diabetic and need a fridge that works.
3/ What happens after the 5 years. Am i left with a heavy bill and damaged food.
4/ Why should i have to replace my food and wait for a person to fix this item every 12-18 months

Maybe i got a replacement as I have had a fault with my product but i would still try with this.

When you buy a product why should we have to call you out to fix it every 12/18 months to fix a fault. I bought the product for hassle free, I understand that you can get some probs but this is so common!

Phone 0800 988 0123 and press 1 and ask for senior customer services and so not stand for there rubbish!

On another note if you taken out a extended warrenty for this item with dixons etc cancel it. its worthless.. you get £100 back!

Do you know if the new model is any better as, thus far, in the trade we don't although there has been some service calls for them of a similar nature I'm told I haven't seen any myself or had many calls on the new range either.

Despite requests to Samsung a test unit has not yet been supplied to UK Whitegoods for evaluation nor do we expect one to be now.

If you are diabetic then I would suggest a stable and reliable fridge that is unlikely to fail, in which case a Liebherr would be the most appropriate or a specifically designed medicine fridge that is designed for that task. The Samsung machines are not designed to store medical supplies in.

To a customer a fridge is a fridgewhen you spend £1000 more more you expect a good product without a fault that WILL come back every 12-18 months even with the repair and the fix.

I cant say about the new model as this one is not even sold on most websites yet. However i guess you are a repairer and people getting a replacement is not good for you ask this would mean no repairs for you.

I could just allow samsung to give me a 5 year to which they will come and repair it but if i was to get 3 repairs in 5 years thats

3 days off for person to come out
3 days off for person to repair item
£100/£150 each time for dead food.

why should i have to be without my fridge/freezer each time just so you can repair it. If the fix fixed it then that would be fine but the fix does not fix it it just helps it for 12/18 months.

Deing diabetic does not matter what item i used. As long as its cold.

It's no odds to me whether we repair them or not, there's plenty more rubbish out there people buy that need repairs. In fact, we've got so much work we turn a lot of it away and actually refuse to attend many products that we know are problematic. It's more hassle than it's worth.

This is one such example as, if we get a recall on it, we lose money on that repair so it's not in our interest to see repeating failures. I don't think you quite understand how the repair appliance industry works.

I do know more about the new ones but I am not going to say anymore without reliable and complete information. I don't like to get my facts wrong.

As for the diabetes issue, it is important as if your life almost depends on it working I'd call the fact that it stays that way pretty important, wouldn't you?

The short answer is, but a decent machine in the first place and avoid all this and, if you can't afford a decent one then live with the consequences of a poorer product.

Yes, But i can replace it. And if the item breaks down I can be lent a fridge. I just posted this to warn others as the free 5 year upgrade is rubbish! if you are one of the people that have had a break down as its not a 100% fix.

Do you think I will get my money back?
    Thanks

ps Why does the upgrade only last 12 months?

I have been experiencing problems in the last week with our RS21 DGRS Samsung which we purchased in late 2005. It has been running well until now but started to make alot of noise about a week ago so I thought we start by adjusting the temperature up a few degrees. The noise has stopped and I have dropped the temperature down again but it doesnt seem to be staying very cool particularly in the top half of the fridge but the freezer seems to be working fine. Also the temperature gauge constantly pulses on and off.

Does this follow the symptons that others have had and any advice on what I should do. Should I contact Samsung or a fridge engineer? Also we dont have any warranty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

you made your mistake on the first call out. once youve allowed them to repair it, the chances of a replacement are approx nil.
always insist on a refund or a replacement.
    Get some gorm.
