On Virgin Media 20meg? Reclaim money and save monthly

Options
I am on the 20 meg broadband package with virgin media and was paying £37 a month. I complained about the speed i was getting and was put through to the technical support who said it could be because of my modem, i had one of the old 200 ones from NTL which can only download at a max speed of around 14 meg.
So they sent me a new modem capable of doing more that 20 meg.
I then called the disconnections department saying that sky were doing a much better deal for 10 a month for 16 meg. After battering them down, i got my monthly bill down to £18 a month for 3 months. Then complained about the fact that i was not told my old modem was only capable of downloads of around 14 meg and that i have been paying for a 20meg service for around 8 months and that i was appalled that i wasn't informed that my modem wasn't capable of the full 20meg. The guy i was talking to then went to speak to his manager and i was offered a £46 refund. I then stressed that ive been paying for something i havn't been getting for several months. The guy spoke to his manager and they offered me a £96 refund put onto my account. I settled with that amount as i did'nt want to be too greedy (you might be able to get a bigger refund if you really stress it to them).

So if your on virgin media's 20meg package and you have one of the 200 modems (there silver and have NTL printed on them, they also say 200 underneath them on a white sticker).

When you first complain about you speed just mention that your modem is quite old and ask them if it could be that. They will send you a new modem ( a black 250) for free.

Let me know how you get on and see if you can get more than the £96 i did, or lower than £18 a month.

Please note this only works if you are on the 20 meg package, because the old modems can handle upto 14 megs.

Good luck!
Jonathan

    Yep.

I had one of the old ones but never got any of this through retentions. Best deal they could offer me when i phoned last month was my 20mb service for £29 a month.

just call tech and tell them your current modem cant handle the speed, i did it a few years back when i had an old motorola surfboard 5100

Probably will need to do it a few times though these days as most of their techs are india based morons, they point blank denied to me there was an ip address to autoregister the new modem without installing all their crap software, which there is.

Use the above form to tell them your modem cant handle the speed & they'll send one out to you. Much cheaper than calling up :)
