    Bill888 asked a question relating to a particular account's T&Cs.
    Dan29 provided the answer.
    Bill888 thanked Dan29.

Can anyone explain what happens when the account matures after 1 year?

In my case last year they wrote and offered another Fixed rate term which I accepted. :)

Has anyone had any joy trying to open one of these? I applied online the day they came out but haven't received the forms to sign through the post yet. If you ring the "savings hotline" 0845 602 2828 you get a message telling you that due to high call volumes you have to ring back then you get cut off!

I applied for an account online in 2007 and after no response and two unanswered letters I gave up and deposited the cash elsewhere, I thought it strange as I already had a fixed account with them, a letter to the MD said they had no record of my application or letters but I knew 100% they were telling 'porkies' because of a reference they made which they could only have got from my application!

IMHO BM offer decent rates but they are incompetent since they were taken over!

Todays' post has been delivered & still nothing received.

    So

    - This lot have no branches so I can't go into one.
    - They're phone line automatically cut's you off.
    - If you request an application online you don't receive anything.

How exactly is one supposed to do business with this joke of an organization? Am staggered on a daily basis at how appalling the service is from the financial sector in this country. HSBC, Lloyds & now this lot, all just dreadful.

Birmingham Midshires used to be very good, from my own experience, until they demutualised and became part of the HBOS empire.

They're basically a completely different animal now - used to be a branch based BS now they are (mainly) retail postal accounts arm of a bank. Only thing that remains the same is the name.

FWIW when I last used them - thing I really hated was that funds on maturity were repaid by cheque (taking several days to arrive) rather than BACS...dunno if that still applies.

I have a problem getting certificate of tax deducted from them, last year I made 3 requests in writing without any response and eventually had to phone up for the details, it was a right performance to get the details that way too!

Today I received one in the post for this year and it's wrong, they have only shown 1 months interest rather than 12 months!

Well, since my post one week ago today saying i had applied, like others on here i am still waiting. However i decided that as my money was sitting in my current account i was not gong to hang about and i decided to go for the Coventry over 50s fixed rate but instant access account.Sent it off last Friday and have received the ID back today so hopefully the cheque will be cashed tomorrow. In any case they say they will pay interest from the day of deposit.

In my opinion good, prompt customer service counts for more than a few pounds difference in what you get in interest,if the rate is a bit higher. You can waste that in phone calls, never mind the stress aspect!!

I agree. I'm going to give the Heritable Bank 1 Yr Fixed Rate Bond at 6.8% a go when it opens on Saturday, if I haven't heard back from BM by then.
