Gold type sink fittings

Options
Help! I have a fairly new bathroom and I have been bleaching the black stains from the grouting around the bath and sink and now the gold looking waste drain thingy has been ruined! I didn't know you shouldn't use bleach with that type of fitting.

I've looked at replacing them but so far no good. I've been told I would have to buy the whole drain system for just the gold bit!

Can anyone tell me where I can get them? Or how I can make them look better?

If you've taken the gold off... it's off. Forever.

I know for sure that sink plug drain traps generally come in a kit with the pipework up to the overflow etc. and all the seals. For my kitchen sink it was only about £3.50 for a bog standard stainless steel one.

You might find a gold coloured one there or perhaps HomeBase - other than that you could ask in the "In My House" forum 'cos there'll be loads of knowledgeable folk in there.

Come to think of it... I can move the post there for you... :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have done the same as you. Cif is about the only thing you can use on you sink that wont turn the gold black. Mine did eventually come back to colour not like new but not anything like what it looks like when you have just done it.

you get get a new waste from any good plumbers merchants,
You should only clean with warm soapy water, and polish with a cotton cloth.

Thanks for this, called into one today. Cost to renew both bath & sink would be £33 + VAT but it looks different to what I have now so have to check this out.

    hi ya,

gold basin waste and tap/chain from "screwfix" item # d66389-38 is £9.99
gold bath waste and tap/chain from "screwfix" item # d50721-38 £12.99
both include vat but if order is under £45.00 P&p is £4.95.
Still cheaper than you were originally quoted though...
    good luck! :D
