Saw Tropic Thunder last night in screen 7 (the old air-raid bunker screen – those who have been there will know what I mean) at the absolute dive that is Birmingham Odeon. Was a very good turnout, screening was quite full.

It is a good funny film, hilariously funny at times. Only drawback was after watching the trailers and seeing some stuff they had put out in the media to promote the film I felt afterwards that I had seen and knew far too much about the film before I even sat down to watch it. Already kind of knowing the back stories of the characters played by Stiller, Black and Downey Jr detracted from the experience for me somewhat. But such is the way that movies seem to be promoted these days I suppose, I’ve learned my lesson. So, for anyone who hasn’t seen or read too much about Tropic Thunder – keep it that way!!

Because of the reasons stated above I’d be tempted to give the film 7 out of 10, but I won’t. I give this film 8 out of 10 for 1 reason, and I don’t believe I’m saying this cos I have always been irritated (to put it mildly) by the man in the past, but Tom Cruise is absolutely sensational in every scene he appears in. You may not recognise him at first but trust me he is so funny he gives the film an extra point out of 10 just on his own!!

I was also in the air-raid bunker last night for Tropic Thunder, and have to agree about the Tom Cruise thing. I didn't realise it was him until the credits came up, but he was my favourite character, especially in the last scene.

I thought it was an average film, with a few funny moments, but then maybe I'd seen too many trailers.

6/10 (including an extra Tom Cruise point).

    i was there aswell.
i dont even think the film was that good, i would buy it anyways pineapple express is funnier in my opinion, but it may have been cause i was a bit p****d off....
i would give it a 6 out of ten. i think Tom cruises career is now on the rocks though to go in a film like that anyways..
(next film Death Race :) looking to get tickets for Taken though hopefully :) )
  • I think Tom Cruise was in Tropic Thunder because he's mates with Ben Stiller who directs it and he was doing it as a favour

I must say that it was a fantastic film :j and a big thanks to everyone who posts codes on the forum !:T :rotfl: :T GR8!
  • saw this movie in greenwich. so do the movies always start at 18.45?

i could say i slept thorugh the movie at least 3-5 times...and everytime i woke up, i could figure out what was happening. very boring movie, the laughs were very short lived...tom cruise was different and therefore quite good. but on the whole, a total waste of time.

i cannot believe that hollywood wastes so much money on absolutley crap movies like this? i bet this movie will not go past one week.

2/10, and the 2 is solely because i got a good sleep in between and Tom Cruise.

    You've lost already. I've just seen that it's only 107 minutes long. That's nowhere near a week.

Saw Tropic Thunder last night at Printworks, which was at least half empty. Overall an easy to watch enjoyable film 8/10

Oh, and I haven't been to a public screening in months, but it's the first time I've seen one full to the brim!

Another one from Sheffield last night. We had a couple of the old dears sat next to us who we dubbed Mary Whitehouse 1 and Mary Whitehouse 2... tutting and the like :D

We saw Superbad the other year... it's basically just a (...see I was going to say more mature, but it isn't really...) adult version of that.

Very childish and slapstick but the cinema as a whole seemed to like it and I found myself laughing along with them.

7 out of 10 for me.

As for the fullness, we went to see Rock N Rolla the other week at Cineworld in Sheffield and they put us in one of the bigger screens upstairs for that and it was still pretty full. It amused me to see some of the same faces last night as I'd seen the other week :D
