cancelling orange contract early

basically, i've had enough with orange. they have not once in 8months got my bill correct and at one point were charging (or trying to charge me) double. i've had to cancel my DD so as i dont get overcharged and now they are adding charges for not paying by DD (even though its their fudge up's that drove me to it...i was on DD for first few months)

i'm in month 8 of an 18 month contract and i;ve just had a payout from my insurance company (stolen phone) for £250 - i was going to use it to buy myself out of the orange contract and go back to either t-mobile or o2 who i wish i'd never left (but due to upgrade offers i did)
thing is, to buy myself out its £350 and i'm very reluctant to fork out an additional £100 just to get out of a contract i've not been happy with from the start.
due to the problems with them basically just adding bundles for me to try and not asking me about it thus when the trial ends i get charged (they said i should have received texts to remind me to cancel if i didnt want to pay and admitted they messed up there on each occasion) - can i use this to knock down the buy-out cost? i really dont want to stay with them for another 10 months.

any advice on cancelling early would be much appriciated.

ps it was purchased through the link online and i no longer have the original phone (stolen) - not sure if that makes any differance

The only think I can think of, I've heard you can just ask them to drop you down to the lowest possible tariff and then that should lower your buy-out price, but you may have to leave it a month.
Not sure how reliable that is though!
