Hi
Not sure if you will be able to help. Please see my other thread running here...
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=847819
basically my brother has gone missing and prior to this he was very secretive over his laptop. We have tried to gain access to this laptop in the hope that we may be able to find some clues to his whereabouts but he has it password protected.
Any ideas as to how we can get past his password?
Thanks

Try
Keep tapping the f8 key as soon as it starts up, you should get to an options menu, select safemode, and if it gives you the option of login, login as administrator with no password.
Above assumes windows XP0 -

A quick solution you can try is to boot up in safe mode - at the login screen you sometimes see another aministrator account with no password (though this depends on how the laptop was setup).
Open up this account and you should be able to change the password of the other account.
This worked for me with a friends laptop.
Ahh - someone already suggested that.0 -

If you want to access his files, you could try a live Linux distro, like Knoppix. I've used it in the past to recover data off my Windows computer that I wasn't able to log into. I basically put the knoppix disc in the cd rom, booted into it. This allowed me to view all my Windows files *without* having to type in my windows password. I could then view files there and then, or plug in a USB key and copy files over.
Lifehacker is always newbie-friendly on this:
