Orange Customer Services HELP!

This is the first thread that I have posted, but I have checked to see if anyone else has posted this, and I think that this is the correct board.

I have just received a call on my pay as you go mobile phone from somebody purporting to be from Orange Customer services (I am on Orange). I was a bit suspicious as the call came up as Withheld on my screen, but I answered and they checked my name. Then they said something about tariffs, and seeing if I was on the correct one, but they would have to check first that they had the correct ID code for me. I didn't know what the code was anyway, and asked why they needed to know, and the man said he had 2 digits and needed to check that I was me, so I had to give them the first two digits. I said 'How do I know you are from Orange, as your number came up as withheld on my phone?'. The man couldn't say, so I said I didn't want to give them any info and I hung up.

Sorry this was so longwinded, and I apologise if I'm probably just being paranoid, but I wanted to know if anyone knows whether a call from Orange should come up as withheld on my screen?

And also is there anything I should do?

Sounds iffy to me, report it to Orange.

It may have changed, but all calls from Orange themselves used to display as from:-

07973 100194.

I think the 194 element might be replaced by 123 or something else but the calls always started 07973 100.

Thank you very much Virgo, so Orange definitely do not phone with a withheld number.
